03/12/2000 00:37 | People here have mentioned the 'big four' spread firms - I also have an account with Spreadex, which is different from the big four: Advantages: * They allow you to bet as low as 10p a point. * They'll give £2,000 credit without having to send evidence of funds. Disadvantages: * They don't do stops or limit orders * They don't do options, currencies or commodities. I've been trading with them for six months and they're very good - the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. | trendy
02/12/2000 22:42 | Cheers for all your feedback. Looks like a visit to Cantor is in order. | technet
01/12/2000 19:15 | Kayak, I think SETS stocks were prev. 8% and although I can't be sure I would assume that non-sets have also been ramped up some. The change certainly used up more of my 'waived deposit limit'! | taxlossuk

01/12/2000 00:35 | Cheers for the advice. I'm actually an Internet/Wireless Consultant. I've got an ISDN line under my desk which I can quite happily make connections to my ISP accounts with Demon, Pipex, BT or CompuServe. My problem is that I want to access IGIndex through the LAN otherwise I have to keep on dialling in everytime I want to use IGIndex. | technet
30/11/2000 18:53 | zz - nor are we ;o) | technet
30/11/2000 18:13 | ... and in my case, we are not even allowed to have modems - connections are strictly through the LAN. | zzaxx99
30/11/2000 11:56 | TechNet, I don't know who you work for but I did read the previous posts - ever thought of investing in an AOL account (or similar) - uses 0800 numbers and I find it essential when out of Country + only £14.99 per month (always on) and can access via (9) on a switchboard - if your firewall still a problem then try using a laptop or separate PC - just an idea. That's what I did but should point out AOL doesn't work with Outlook Express so I have laptop just for trading/dealing etc - worth the investment in my view. Good luck. JPB | humdinger
30/11/2000 11:47 | Humdinger ... as I said in the thread header, their software doesn't work through company's proxy/firewall servers. It's fine over dial-up internet. | technet
30/11/2000 11:40 | Technet Have been using IG for some weeks and no problems at all - live prices on screen now and spreads ok + dealing is fast. I have multiple windows open and just went long BT and closed shorted TWT. Both prices fine as have Level 2 data also on screen. I can't judge on other Internet dealing but I have been very happy with spreads and speed. No problems with logging out - I simply close the window. | humdinger
30/11/2000 11:37 | Biffer - I am in the process of doing so... | alex69
30/11/2000 11:26 | Well version 1.2 doesn't work any better through our proxies than 1.1 did :-( | technet
29/11/2000 23:49 | IGIndex have released version 1.2 of their web Dealing Client | technet
17/11/2000 08:46 | Any sign of AdrianM? - I'd be grateful for a response to post 46 | zzaxx99
15/11/2000 12:18 | Just signed up with IG Index - first thing I tried was internet dealing - request a price and you get a message saying waiting for a dealer - gave up after 5 minutes.......Going to try Cantor by the sounds of it above. | novision
15/11/2000 08:42 | Novision, did you get the hours of trade? | pw
15/11/2000 00:55 | -- nc, There are a couple of differences apart from those: - Additional spread added by IG to their quoted price is greater for controlled risk bets - Controlled risk bits have the full additional spread applied at opening, whereas IG have half on opening half on closing. | zzaxx99
15/11/2000 00:50 | nc, I believe you've got it in a nutshell, but I haven't used Index Direct. | kayak
15/11/2000 00:47 | TN Will be interesting =:o) | lom
15/11/2000 00:46 | Can't comment as I haven't used IG Index. You have to be damned sharp when dealing though especially on swift moving stocks. | lom
15/11/2000 00:32 | Lom, Kayak, As I understand it IGIndex and IGIndexDirect differ as follows: - minimum bet size is smaller for IndexDirect - IndexDirect requires a stop on all bets - IGIndex offer credit accounts Do either of you know: i) do the spreads differ; and ii) does the service differ in other ways? Thanks, NC | nc
15/11/2000 00:28 | Lom - looking forward to meeting at last, at the Xmas bash | technet
15/11/2000 00:17 | Lom, Yep, same for IG Index. :-( | kayak |
