Pfft, could well turn out to be a value trade if exploration comes in.

Hi Runthejoules! The main use of Nd and Pr is in making permanent magnets for high efficiency electric motors, especially for use in cars and wind turbines. IMO, the demand for them is only going one way, and that's up!
I also agree with Napoleon that we don't need a trade war for Rainbow to be successful. But, all the same, we might just get one.

Also, there might not be much further to go in this re-rating IMO, & we could take a rest around this level until the next news, but I hope I'm wrong on that!

Agreed with the above two ( see post 600 ), but IMO we'll be fine without a trade war.
I'm LTBH here, & the way they're expanding the resource says they're looking to find customers over & above their Thyssen metals basic business.
If they succeed in this, it could be £1/share quite quickly.

Indeed, Bookwormrobert. However, I think there's considerable short-term risk to the downside if Trump doesn't. He does whatever the last person he's spoken to tells him to do. Long-term this seems to be a much cleaner way of extracting REEs than China so it's a green)er materials play. I don't know enough about mobile phone construction though to know whether graphene usage in batteries or screens will cut down the REEs needed, though that's years away.

Runthejoules = the only people who can tell you the exact "basket price" of RBW's rare earth concentrate are RBW and their offtaker thyssenkrupp. In the last RNS it's quoted at approx. $13 per kg.
But, since 80% of the value of the basket is the magnet rare earths Nd and Pr, you could just look up their prices and use them as a proxy. They certainly should indicate if RBW's basket price is going up or down.
If Trump really does launch a trade assault on China (quite likely, I think), then it's more than possible that the Chinese will use rare earths (which are 95% produced in China) as a way of payback. That could make RBW's output very valuable indeed!

The general market cost, is it 'basket' as in the kind of basket of the costs of selected goods they get RPI from? A standard mix of REEs? I could only find the cost of invidual REEs in renminbi (sorry I'm such a noob)!

what precisely are you looking for? Rainbow's cost or producing their basket or the price they are selling it for?

Doing some proper research on this one now. Google isn't helping me to find the cost of a basket of REE in $ though - any links? Might be useful in the header. Cheers.

My observation, IMHO there are two options here for Rainbow. No.1 prove up any additional resource, this will add significant value and sell out,or, dilute at higher levels and increase debt levels to develop the project and fully beneficiate concentrate so as to sell higher value products. A refinery of sort will cost in the area of 10-20 million.

Simply finding $1 billion of rare earths in a deposit wouldn't necessarily result in a sustained rise in the price. It's all about whether the deposit is economic, permitting and how much CAPEX would be required to get the mining started.

However, in Rainbow's case, the deposit is very very likely to be economic being a condensed ball not far under the surface and not far from their existing processing facilities. The area is also already permitted and finally the initial CAPEX outlay is likely to be quite small in relation to the value of contained minerals.

So all in all, despite the fact a fund-raising would be required if the exploration proves successful it will likely not be particularly dilutive.

If they find a $billion worth of Rare earths.. Nobody should worry about a fundraise or dilution anywhere near these levels!Stock would go straight to 50p

Let's remember they have been generating cash-flow since the end of December too. That said, if exploration comes in they are going to need more cash to get a JORC resource and develop it.

Well they raised nearly 3 million quid in December at 14p, so I would give you pretty long odds of another one in the near future..
