17/1/2007 07:12 | LONDON (AFX) - A consortium led by Qinetiq Group PLC, the UK defence company in which the government holds a 19 pct stake, has won the bulk of a 16 bln stg army training contract, the Financial Times reported. Citing unnamed industry executives, the FT said the Qinetiq consortium has been chosen as the provider of all non-military training to the armed forces. That accounts for most of the 16 bln stg Defence Training Review contract, one of the biggest to be drawn up under the government's Private Finance Initiative. Ministers are expected to announce the deal today, the FT said. Qinetiq and its partners had faced competition from a rival consortium led by BAE Systems PLC and VT Group PLC. | aphrodites

17/1/2007 00:06 | HOLLERICH1 how do think they will mount a takeover when the Govt. still hold a big chunk of QQ> ? | simongn
16/1/2007 22:50 | There will always be worriers (And people better informed than me with inside information) but I suspect not.Anyway , tomorrow should prove an interesting one for QQ. Hollerich , I guess most of us would like to believe it but..... | wad collector

16/1/2007 19:14 | information from undisclosed sources says there are gruop of private equity firms getting ready to takeover QQ, but believed to be waiting for the big pie(the announcement of the DTR contract)this might send the shares north as high as £3.50 to £4.00. | hollerich1
16/1/2007 18:09 | My source got its source wrong - its the South Wales Echo and says at 12.30pm St Athans /Metrix will be announced as the winning site tomorrow. And they also do some wicked lines in babyclothes! | wad collector
16/1/2007 16:49 | Oh I wish I'd known that earlier, I would have topped up further lol. Just been to their website and it looks like the latest news item now replaced by 'Store recalls baby clothing'. I was going to make a comment on their dating site but I'll leave it... Fingers crossed for tomorrow, but the South Wales Argus is never wrong (apparently)!? | lovelyjubbly
16/1/2007 16:12 | The South Wales Argus claims that Metrix has won (And they are never wrong!). | wad collector
16/1/2007 15:52 | p.s. Announcement expected tomorrow and QQ expected to get at least part of the package... | lovelyjubbly
16/1/2007 15:04 | Still bemused about the Elliot waves but I will trust your analysis. Sounds all a bit like reading tea leaves though unless you are applying a specific mathematical formula. Not really a chartist but I do like the uptrend, obviously. As far as I was aware the PFI was in two distinct packages of possibly 7bn each and so the likely option is for each consortium to get one! Anyway, I work for BAE so I will be the last to know :-) For what it's worth I would plan to hold until at least the PFI announcement day and would be highly tempted to take profits at what looks like a critical 220 initial target... | lovelyjubbly
16/1/2007 13:39 | Looking at the BAE BB , there is no mention of any rumours that the MC3 (including BAE) consortium have won the DTR contract. Most City rumours about contract wins seem, to me ,to turn out to be true (Unlike takeover rumours!). It would be surprising if the Metrix bid has lost , that there would be no leaks surfacing at BAE of their success. Admittedly there is a lot happening at BAE politically at the moment , with Saudi and Tanzania, and also the DTR contract is less important to a £11 Billion turnover company. The date rumour may be incorrect , but I feel reasonably confident that there will be a significant further rise in January.Let me hazard a guess of 230 by 1st Feb? | wad collector
16/1/2007 11:50 | LovelyJubbly The Elliott waves in technical analysis involve a 5 wave sequence. If you look at the graph above you will see the stock bottomed out on 15 August at 161p. The 1st. wave up took you to 185p 2nd.wave down to 171p on 2 October. 3rd. wave up to 191p on 10 November. 4th. wave down to 174p on 29 November. We are now in the 5th. wave upwards which has been very steep. This will take us to the previous high which is 219p and was at the time of floatation on 13 February last year. 220p is a round figure target which I am looking for but I am cautious because the 5th. wave is very steep and it is unsual for a rise in these circumstances to fulfill expectations. Howver, if the price goes through 220p in volume trading we could then go into another 5 wave upward trend. I bought stock on the float and topped up again several times around the 180p level. 215p will be a very attractive level for me to take a few profits. | aphrodites
16/1/2007 10:18 | I hope Wadcollector is right about an announcement soon as I do think this stock will move higher assuming they do win a big contract. I obviously agree it's not in the price as after being in the red since 2 weeks after flotation the blue went to my head and I topped up on Monday at the very last minute at 200.2p! Hopefully a good price! No idea what the relevance of Elliot waves are lol but for what it's worth I would go for a guess of 220 being the top on a contract win, but long term maybe 250 by the summer? | lovelyjubbly
16/1/2007 08:39 | Well, curiously my reasoning for yesterday´s increase would seem to be correct. "QinetiQ jumped 4.3 per cent to 209½p in heavy trading on talk that a consortium led by the company has won a £10bn outsource training contract for the British armed forces." FT.com article - FTSE flying on aerospace hopes By Neil Hume, FT.com, Jan 15 2007 23:9 .................... Let´s hope what we and the market believe is indeed correct. | via con
15/1/2007 19:21 | aspers Hope so- I've had my 750 since floatation too. I forget I've got them sometimes. | miamigo
15/1/2007 19:10 | It seems I am talking to myself. I am doing quite well on this, unfortunately it is my smallest holding. The rise is on expectation of these contracts I believe, but there is plenty more to offer by this company. The question is whether it is able to generate profits as expected by a PLC? | hawks11
15/1/2007 18:49 | Have stuck with this since floatation at £2.00..apart froma brief rise to 220 it has placed me in the red for the last few months....today has seen a good rise in all Defence stocks and with news imminent ref future buisness maybe things are going to improve fast Goos luck to all that hold. | aspers
15/1/2007 18:04 | Our local paper is running a story that the DTR bid result will be made in the Commons on Wednesday. No source quoted . I won't sell at 215p. Perhaps the recent rise is a leak after all. | wad collector
15/1/2007 17:06 | Good finish on good volume at the end of the day. This looks very much like the 5th. leg of the Elliott Wave which could take us to 220p. I would be a bit cautious if it were to get there this week. But if you look back at the fall in February last year it was equally as steep as the recent rise. Very symetrical. Looks good but if it hits 215p tomorrow I might be prepared to take a little cash of the table. | aphrodites
15/1/2007 12:55 | wad collector I agree about many arrows in qq.s quiver. eg nano-materials. z | zeppo
15/1/2007 11:16 | still ticking along nicely what a super little stock for the old wrinkly fund :) | ttg100
15/1/2007 10:58 | If the 5.1.07 rumour was correct ,it would imply an announcement this week about the DTR contract.I would have thought there has been sufficient noise in the press about the bidding process to cast doubt on the result.Sufficient to have not fully discounted the price , assuming a Matrix win. I.e. I think it will still rise significantly if this announcement is made. A contract loss would be a surprise , but there are many arrows in QQ's quiver. The timing of the announcement will doubtless be based on the most favourable time politically to make it, which I suspect is why no firm commitment about the exact date is being made. | wad collector |
