There is a promising reference to 'Strategic Initiatives' at the end of this Trading Update. These strategic initiatives will be revealed with the Final Results on July 23rd.

'Strategic initiatives' is surely corporate code for reorganising PZC's assets in a way that might push up the share price.

The sum of PZC's many assets must comfortably exceed its market cap of £850m approx. So there is plenty of scope for raising cash. Maybe there will be a share buy-back, though the large Zochonis family shareholding might make this more complicated.

There's a 4.2% dividend and this looks good value to me and with a potential re-structuring story later the year. I've re-bought here today.

No reason given for the CFO's sudden and immediate departure. After 22 years with the company you'd have thought some explanation would have been given. Creates doubt for me and despite the trading update leaves the possibility of some kind of financial impropriety underlying until clarified.

Market report:

PZ Cussons, which owns the Carex soap, Imperial Lather shower gel and St Tropez fake tan brands, was stirring up some excitement among investors as it said that its full-year profits would be in line with expectations.

It is set to give a further update on its strategic initiatives, which include limiting exposure to Nigeria and focusing on Europe and Asia, in June. Shares edged up 3.1 per cent, or 6p, to 198.8p.
