09/10/2009 12:36 | I was under the impression that these busses would be provided to Proton. These would then get converted to fuel cell. Testing busses are diferent and I think ehat you are alluding to, they would be very expensive. For larger order they would get these fuel cells made by DM. They could then be fitted into the bus, forklift, ship. Most engines run in number of hours and the same with Fuel cell. They need hydrogen to run so they need to be at a source of supply just like gas hope thsi helps afro | afrorich
09/10/2009 12:24 | afro ...back to your other point. So the vehicle manufacturers will have to build a bus etc to run on their Fuel Cell pack. I used to be in TAN and one of the (many) major hurdles facing that apart from logistics and re-charging is the cost of the vehicles. Clients would havw to stump up 50% more for a new vehicle. Whilst payback was estimated in 3-4 years in the current financial climate nobody has the appetite. What's the initial vehicle cost mark up / payback period for buyers compared to Diesel etc. Thanks in advance | spec12

09/10/2009 12:19 | Afro ...It's from the other thread and one of the forst 10 posts ... Proton Power Systems: 'London attractive for fuel cell development' 23 October 2006 Author: Provider: Adfero London's green initiatives have made it an attractive testing and development ground for fuel cell technology, one fuel cell developer has said. According to Proton Power Systems' chief executive Felix Heidelberg, the UK's capital has become "an attractive market" thanks to its commitment to fuel cell development, the Guardian reports. The German fuel cell company is currently in talks with a UK bus manufacturer over plans to design and build more fuel cell-powered buses, following trials of the technology on the London bus network. Transport for London is currently taking part in trials of fuel cell buses as part of the mayor of London's Transport and Air Quality strategy, which aims to reduce air and noise pollution in the transport network. Current trials of the buses are taking place in conjunction with similar schemes in nine other European cities, bringing together bus manufacturers, fuel cell technology researchers and technology companies. | spec12
09/10/2009 11:34 | hi the fuel cell is rechargeable in seconds as apposed to batteries which takes about 8 hours and is low on hear emissions. These fuel cells are built in 10 kw units and can be built to 250 KW if required and more. The cost of these units is not for public eyes unfortunately They bulid these units at Duetse Mechatronics- sub contractor (sorry for spelling ) when ordered in bulk and for one off test which are very expensive they are built on site. They dont build busses or ships forklifts, they meerely provide the fuel cell unit. hope this helps In germany their is legislation that certain areas cannot use diesel, which makes these fuel cell units a ready alternative. fule cells are silent, give low heat emmisions and can be recharged in seconds, which may be ideal for the military.
