25/6/2004 13:47 | Wayne Rooney to bring in Monk for personal PR work Rooney: calls in Monk Ian Hall, PR Week Worldwire 08:30 25-06-2004 LONDON - England star Wayne Rooney is set to draft in his first personal PR adviser to handle the deluge of media and sponsorship interest generated by his spectacular impact on Euro 2004. Rooney's advisers at Proactive Sports Group were this week understood to be on the verge of handing former Sun and Daily Mail senior editor Ian Monk a contract to handle all future PR for the 18-year-old. Monk, who has handled corporate PR for Proactive for the past year and runs his own agency, Ian Monk Associates, said Euro 2004 had seen an 'explosion of interest from global brands' in Rooney. When asked whether PR tactics could involve promoting Rooney and his fiancée Colleen McLoughlin as the new Posh and Becks, Monk said: 'Their image and media strategy is, and will, be very different.' England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson earlier this week compared Rooney with Pele. | thenaughtyboy

25/6/2004 12:05 | Don't know if many investors in PAS understand how they operate. They take a percentage of the player's wages, not of any transfer fees. This means they benefit when a player's wage rises and they get a continuous income stream as opposed to erratic income dependant on infrequent transfers. | ![]() mylands
25/6/2004 08:43 | Double blow of Rooney's injury and England's exit was bound to lead to a mark-down. The injury makes it more likely that he stays at Everton for the time being, IMO. That will bring next season's early form into play into determining his value. Short term I would have thought PAS might see continued weakness. A continuation of England and Rooney's performances might have projected it towards 20p. Long term, I'm sure it will get there. G. | ![]() garth
