If in the future I can buy something for 8p, but I have option to sell at 22p in January, I sell it, it drops to 18p but then rises back to 22p in February, so I buy it back because now I believe shortly I will be able to sell it again at 27p, that’s how this works, once the previous sellers who don’t have that option realise they are watching the losses mount they will also close those shorts leading to a sharp rise, just like four oil companies have already done this morning imho dyor

The only reason pmo is heavily shorted is that it is bond holders locking in a sale of the equity they will be given, these shorts will all vanish at the end of march when the shares get dished out
