Didn't he sell out of this sometime ago though - as soon as it started falling !
Others will hold all the way down because they cannot take a loss.

Very bad reaction to results - must be overdone now!

It's not like they are not making a profit and I suspect things will have picked up by the time of the next update taking into account Christmas etc.

Under £2.00 I'll add some more.

Remember, the economy is not really picking up and people still have limited money in their pockets.

Sorry to say that the share price looks to be heading for £1.
Could still be overvalued at that.

Investors Chronicle:

IC VIEW:
The reaction in the share price has priced in much of the results' bad news. That leaves the stock trading on 21 times forward earnings, the cheapest it has looked in a while. But the prospect of sluggish trading in the run up to Black Friday means we are staying put for now. Hold.

What is the True Value of Poundland? As with Bovis, I felt that a 20% slump in Poundland (PLND) shares was heavily overdone, although there was somewhat more justification for it. Poundland has been spending heavily on opening new stores and it was up against strong comparatives in the first half to September but the only really worrying bit of the statement was the word “volatile” to describe trading.

Poundland shares were already down from 420p in February to 280p and one might feel that a drop of one third allows for quite a bit of bad news. I’m not keen on the retail sector but for anyone hoping to get in to Poundland at the bottom, this week surely provided a great opportunity for an admittedly risky punt.

No bounce at all ending at the low of the day. Going to be a long haul back and better hope for some outstanding christmas trade starting tomorrow.

Good weekend everyone.

The 99p Store business was on the verge of bankruptcy when Poundland finally took it over two months ago, according to the discounter’s chief executive.

Jim McCarthy revealed that the £55m takeover of 99p Stores’ delay by the Competition and Markets Authority meant the previous owners stopped paying rent, lost their credit insurance leaving shelves empty and had unpaid goods sitting unclaimed on shipping containers.

The retailer has been forced to change 99p Stores into Poundlands at breakneck speed and hopes to have converted more than 200 by April next year. Around 30 stores will shut down.

Fair play to Questor in the Telegraph .

Said buy @ 335p last april and again at 300p in june says dump them this morning. That`s quite a hit !

So what`s to say he`s got it right this time ? ;-)

Questor share tip: Sell Poundland as profits tumble

The discount retailer is suffering from tougher trading this year and with an uncertain profit outlook we are bailing out, says Questor

Surprising over-reaction yesterday. I got stopped out on the way down in the 230s first thing yesterday; thought about it for a sec, then immediately bought back in (twice as many shares) at 219p. Incredible over-reaction yesterday. It may take a few weeks to recover, but I was confident in the 279p share price that I originally bought at, so I'm super-confident now.

The sheep got spooked yesterday I think.

When I go to town I always look in the door way ,usually 20 to 30 people, some times more waiting to pay with only three tills open of the eight tills available,
Low IQ staff ? .. Its now payback time for dreadful service..Only a fool queues to spend money

Some of the stuff I have read about Poundland today defies belief, both on here and from the apparent experts, a lot of it is naive and ill informed. The one pound model is fine at the moment with inflation as it is and the general market as it is in terms of low prices and cost cutting across the board.

If in future inflation goes north prices across the board may have to rise, this won't just impact Poundland, it will impact all retailers, also they could easily rebrand in future if necessary, as long as the items they sell are considered to be good value they will have a future regardless of whether items are £1 or £10.

In reality there weren't many surprises in the results today, the profits had already been guided at the level announced, the volatile comment was the main catalyst for the drop today, whoever proof read that needs to be fired as it has had a very damaging impact on the share price.

I remain confident in the story here as the financial position is excellent and the increase in store numbers will have a positive impact in the long term.
