25/7/2024 13:58 | Ref the politics stuff, I can't see that the Lib Dem performance is any indication that the Tories should move in their direction. Surely they were just the lucky recipients of those who felt that they could neither support the Tories or Labour. The alternative (adopted by Mrs J) was a 'none-of-the-above' spoilt ballot paper. If you think that a right-of-centre party cannot attract majority votes, how do you explain the largest majorities achieved by Saint Margaret Thatcher and Boris's 2019 'get Brexit done' manifestos? Those policies were able to attract both traditional Conservative voters but also significant numbers of aspirational Labour voters. Would it be too much to ask them to go back and look at those and re-adopt policies that people actually want? (and, hopefully, this time implement them). | ![]() jeffian

25/7/2024 11:28 | I’ll bet that the majority that voted for them did so because they thought that they seemed ‘quite nice’, failing to notice that they are, in fact, dangerously unhinged lunatics and zealots. | ![]() monte1
25/7/2024 11:22 | True, although how anyone could vote for them is waaaaay beyond my comprehension. | ![]() barry evans
25/7/2024 11:14 | They had the great advantage of not being Tory or Starmer though, as did Reform, that's why they both did well. Reforms vote was in earnest, Lib Dems mainly protest. | ![]() fireplace22
25/7/2024 11:11 | The Lib Dem contingent in the commons is a disgusting disgrace and is entirely the tories fault. A man whose campaign was nothing short of a loop of Noels house party managed to garner 60 odd seats is almost unfathomable. | ![]() barry evans
25/7/2024 11:05 | Staunch Labour voted for labour. Middle of the road Labour voters, wouldn't vote for Starmer so voted Lib Dem. Lib Dem voters voted Lib Dem. Con voters stayed at home or voted reform, those who thought Reform had been nasty to the Tories voted Lib Dem. Big Lib Dem gains without any real conviction. Reform vote was conviction that's the difference. | ![]() fireplace22
25/7/2024 10:39 | No. They believe that the Tories have moved so far left that they might as well give their vote to anyone who is at least open about their leftism instead of pretending otherwise. There are plenty openly left parties out there to vote for. Not to mention the fact that they say one thing and then either do the opposite or nothing at all. | ![]() monte1
25/7/2024 10:30 | They believe that, that's why Cleverly or Tugendhat will win. | ![]() fireplace22
25/7/2024 10:23 | We had so many seats taken from us by the Lib Dems - proof that we are just too far right for the voters. | ![]() fireplace22
25/7/2024 10:12 | John 4m Will there be a Tory Party to lead come the next GE? I don't care - good riddance. The fact is that the “conservative& There are some who are comforting themselves with the idea that this is some kind of blip or aberration and that defecting Tory voters will come loyally trooping back to the Tory "fold" like good little children who've been a bit naughty , but have now realised the error of their ways. Well this is no mere protest vote , it is a realignment and has been coming for years. | ![]() barry evans

25/7/2024 09:49 | morning ye merry avatars #2507 the 'Isle of Wight' tomato undoubtedly swings it for me indeed I have noted an increasing propensity for eateries to hopefully impress by naming the source of teh ingredient on the menu ie madagascsn vanilla, hand dived isle of bute scallops etc, although I have yet to note any gastro produce sourced from blackburn, bradford or rochdale | elpirata |
