PHNX were exempt and registered in Jersey, but I believe PHNX is now registered in London from this month.I have just did a dummy buy with HL,and Stamp duty was payable on the transaction to buy.

Is stamp duty payable when buying PHNX shares ? I tried buying some on my Selftrade account and they want to charge stamp duty. I'm sure that PHNX was meant to be exempt.

fenners - it's 12 years. After how long do you think that promise should have expired? I haven't read the terms but the article doesn't mention an end date.

Thinking of topping up here. Can anyone confirm when is the cut-off date for these to count towards the RI? I'm assuming I can buy before the 22nd June which seems to be the RI record date. Thanks

Hvs, it's not a useless point at all, I think you've missed the nuance of it in your eagerness to call someone an idiot. Read the point again more carefully.

When quizzed by my colleague on Friday about old her Standard Life 'with profits' endowment policies Phoenix were non committal about their maintaining the old mortgage promise.
Worrying.

Of course there might be a little less appetite for the added shares given the prior RI, but I don't expect a significant or long term drop in (effective) price.

Why mention it if its not going to happen ???

PO has a general point - it does happen with more lightly discounted Rights Issues the price quite often drops to or below the new issue price. But that won't happen here. First off the issue price is at a big discount, that is not a reasonable drop (barring some catastrophe). Second, we have already had a RI with Phoenix, and the price rose considerably above the Theoretical Ex Rights Price and stayed above it.

Of course there might be a little less appetite for the added shares given the prior RI, but I don't expect a significant or long term drop in (effective) price.

No idea who hvs is calling an idiot, or why by the way but every board seems to have someone like that... Is that the pot calling the kettle black. U made a useless point.

@ GARY - the term in question is "bonus element of the rights issue". This is neither a bonus nor a hoodwinking, but a technical accounting adjustment which isn't explained anywhere in the prospectus because they assumed, I suppose, that readers would understand it!

Speaking for myself, I'd never heard of it, but here is an explanation:

EDIT: @ gettingrich - missed your last post, sorry.

Gary, yes I realise that but it's ridiculous of them to use that terminology ('bonus factors') because it makes it sound like you've gained something you haven't. They should just use a term like 'adjusted' because that's all it is - an adjustment to reflect the enlarged company. No idea who hvs is calling an idiot, or why by the way but every board seems to have someone like that...

Gary Cook, please don't take this the wrong way, but your post about 'bonus factors' suggests you don't understand how rights issues really work. The company isn't 'looking after' you. They are merely using language that convinces you that they are!!

Pierre O'Reilly. The last PHNX RI was issued on 28/09/2016,at 508p and until payment day PHNX only dropped to a intraday low of 699.90p on the 02/11/2016.On the Nil paid Rights day on 25/10/2016.The PHNX share price ranged from 730p to 780p,and finished at 755p.PHNX share price has only dropped below £7 once since until now on 12/12/2016 at 697.50p The Offical Nil Rights price on 22/06 is 691p.Mr O'Reilly if PHNX drops to 518p,then you need to buy as many as you can afford, because PHNX at 518p will not be at that price very long if at all.IMHO around the £7 area is as low as the PHNX share price will go Sir !!!
