05/2/2013 13:14 | Thanks for that LL I am in the Waste Industry myself, hence my interest in PNN, as of Feb 01 the Chinese and Indians are back in the market and are driving the price of recovered goods up, this will aid the share price from Viridor point of view. PNN I think are protected somewhat are they are in a sector that is hedged against inflation. I will watch FENR with interest and may well jump in during the next few weeks, I am hopeful of a slightly better entry point looking at the chart. | stevieweebie2
05/2/2013 12:57 | Pound expected to drop against dollar ? (About half profits are earned in dollars. Also US not having a cold winter at mo. But, figs out today say US forecast to grow 2.4% and China 7.2% (figs out today) this year. Actually took my own advice after I posted ! Bought 8,000 shares at 399p.....up to 418p in days....then slide down to 372p at mo (add 7p dividend). Still, quality compnay, good management, and if the miners start shifting the muck...will benefit. Also hold PNN for the growth prospects from Viridor. Visited an waste to energy incinerator recently (not one of PNNs).....if you live near one worth a visit, they are usually happy to show people round. | lobby ludd
04/2/2013 09:08 | LL I am so glad that I bought PNN and also RDSB (after the advice of the previous poster) and not FENR as I would have lost my shirt instead of being handsomely in profit. I am not having a poke, I just wondered what you thought of the reason for the drop in FENR. | stevieweebie2
21/1/2013 15:38 | Good price recovery since the last Ofwat RNS | huttonr
18/1/2013 16:05 | LL thanks for that, regarding recovery play, I was referring to the individual company rather than the economy as a whole. | stevieweebie2
18/1/2013 14:53 | 'Recovery play'...if there is a recovery one'd expect defensive income stocks such as Pennon to lag...personally I see the yield as more than decent rather than half decent....which would tend to limit rapid upside. 'Solid defensive recovery play' ? Market leading conveyor belt maker Fenner ?....the more coal, iron ore etc. is produced & shifted the more belts they sell. And they've a Rolls-royce style service arm which is very defensive. | lobby ludd
16/1/2013 08:14 | thanks Miata will look at these later in the week. | stevieweebie2
15/1/2013 19:22 | Solid, defensive - probably. PNN at 646p or SVT at 1536p. Recovery - possibly to a degree (we have had the recent recovery from RPI not CPI) but subject to regulatory review decisions which could be negative. Perhaps more total return without higher risk from BATS, HSBA, and RDSB ? | miata
15/1/2013 18:45 | Hi All New to this thread, am looking for a solid defensive recovery play with a half decent yield, is this it? Many thanks in advance for anyone talking the time to respond, and don't worry I wont take it as direct advice. thanks | stevieweebie2
10/1/2013 11:54 | Nomura "We highlighted in our water update in November that we thought the negative impact of the expected [RPI] change could be up to 2% on equity valuation for a typical UK water company (UU, SVT, PNN all Neutrals, with slightly less impact for PNN given its waste business). Hence, the fact that the ONS is not recommending changes is a positive versus expectations in our view. | miata
21/12/2012 08:58 | Ofwat is set to make big concessions to water companies with the third version of its "Section 13" licence change proposals, Utility Week has learned. The regulator is understood to have prepared a revised draft that would limit the immediate licence changes to those necessary to enable retail competition. That would represent a major victory for the industry, which was concerned the version Ofwat published in October left the regulator too much discretion. Most water companies are believed to support the suggested compromise. | ohisay
19/12/2012 08:56 | TUI will replace PNN in the FTSE100 on 24th December. Pennon has been in and out of the FTSE100 index before (09/09/09, 29/06/12) so the effects of the change can be researched, expect very high traded volumes on the changeover. | miata
19/12/2012 00:11 | But there will be funds that focus on FTSE250 companies and they will be buyers | gateside
18/12/2012 23:55 | "116th in FTSE, so on course to heading back to the FTSE250 this month". How would this affect price? I guess it will knock it down because many investors and funds want to invest in FTSE100 companies. However, whenever I (a noobie) guess something like this it usually turns out to be 180 degrees wrong. Am I right this time? | alanh90
12/12/2012 11:16 | Yes, the technicals look good. However it's where it is for a reason (OfWat/Competition Commission) and their actions can send it up or down. Sixteen companies have not accepted the regulator's proposals to break the automatic link between prices and inflation for retail operations. | miata
12/12/2012 10:53 | Technicals look good here. | ohisay
01/12/2012 13:02 | 116th in FTSE, so on course to heading back to the FTSE250 this month | gateside

30/11/2012 11:20 | "when they are up and running in a few years' time" offwater review depression in 2014. There's the dilemma. apad | apad
30/11/2012 11:13 | Telegraph has another view However, the future growth will come from the energy-from-waste plants that the group is building in Runcorn, Exeter, Oxfordshire and Cardiff. These four units should add about £100m a year to operating profit when they are up and running in a few years' time. The company will spend £1bn developing these and has the credit lines to support this, with about £900m of cash and cash facilities secured. So, falling profits at Viridor are unlikely to upset these investment plans. | ohisay
30/11/2012 09:49 | IC reiterates the negatives today. The story will be repeated many times. Bound to put pressure on share price apad | apad
29/11/2012 17:13 | Well I can't see why it can't get to 650p odd on these results and then mark time.Looks like it manages the business challenges well. Pleased my contrarian doubling up at 603p has worked out so far - I'll just mark time too. | ohisay
29/11/2012 11:21 | o... Last time the outcome of ofwat was too late. ofwat bangs the drums about how tough they are being for political reasons. might not be like that next time. but you are looking 2014 for post ofwat. imv the solution to the low recyclate prices is managing the contracts and they are doing that already. Which is all very well, but I still don't have a good idea about timing. apad | apad |
