Mobinetic [IE/PSQ's mobile platform] article - 27 July 2011:

A recent report from KPMG assesses how the global financial community is responding to the adoption of mobile banking and mobile payments...

(snip)

Interestingly, the report states that many banks have made incremental changes to their internet banking platform to deliver mobile banking services. I agree that this is a low cost approach but I disagree that it is low risk.

Banks that invest in this way are likely to find themselves stuck on a one way path that addresses the mobile opportunity in the short term but does not cater for the longer term developments. As the report says, there are still many unknowns when it comes to mobile financial services. The lowest risk approach at this stage, therefore, is to partner with third parties. They can take on the challenges of mobile standards, evolving mobile operating systems, security needs and payment functionality, on behalf of the financial institutions that seek to deliver the most cutting edge mobile services.

... like what 02 has done.
Meanwhile zilch summer volume of trades: £3000 worth yesterday.

can't be bothered to read a lot of the posts so may have been mentioned before but today in Mcdonald I saw a "contactless payment" poster. Things are moving hopefully in the right direction but according to the share price these seem to be stuck.

The future is bright – it's smartphones
Published on Wednesday, July 20th by Tony Dennis

Rating: Research shows smartphones will outstrip featurephones

UK based research firm, Juniper Research, has hit the headlines with a report that predicts that smartphone shipments will reach one billion units a year by 2016. See here. However, Fred Huet, md of Greenwich Consulting, argues that the mobile network operators could well be unready for the kind of implications such huge numbers will have on their (data) networks. He says, "The effect that the number of smartphone users will have on network capacity remains to be seen." Huet thinks that part of this disconnect could have to do with pricing. Currently smartphones are viewed as the premium price model – and not exactly the kind of phone that everyone can afford. However, GoMo News has run stories about ZTE here and Microsoft here which indicate that smartphone prices could well fall dramatically."What is unexpected is the fact that economy smartphones will account for nearly a third of shipments," Huet explains.

"It is abundantly clear that smartphones are phasing out feature phones, and the fact that one billion smartphones will [apparently] be shipped by 2016 isn't too surprising when you consider that Apple has sold 20 million iPhones in the previous quarter alone."

He continues, "This reflects a shift from smartphones being considered high-end and out of reach for most of the market, and means that smartphones will become much more accessible for the rest of the world."

Huet also anticipates that in addtion to the affordability of smartphones comes the multitude of their applications.

By 2016, he believes that consumes will be constantly connected to social networks and the internet.

More significantly, smartphones will be used to pay for goods. "Our devices will be our wallets, loyalty cards, photo albums, and gateway to social worlds," Huet predicts.

He concludes, "The fact that smartphone features are developing at such a rapid pace means that the smartphones of the future will be packed with new technologies, opening up digital money and mobile banking facilities for the masses."

housands of shops across the UK are getting ready for a roll-out of a new technology which could allow shoppers to use their mobiles to buy things.

It's called Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and some of the biggest retailers on the high street think the idea could take off this summer.

One estimate suggests 40,000 businesses could be using it by the end of 2011.

There are a lot of things that need to be resolved in the industry... in terms of security you're almost certainly going to have to enter a pin when you make a transaction

Kieren Hines Mobile phone analyst

The technology isn't new but it's never been tried on such a big scale before.

Orange and MasterCard are jointly launching a NFC-ready handset between April and June while competitors Visa and O2 are doing the same later this summer.

I have been following PSQ for a while (the chat/share price) and today i've done a been doing a bit of research on the different companies within.

The last statement mentioned the services side not doing as well. This looks to comprise of Documentric and Avance Group. Having a look at their websites (shop fronts) both websites look abandoned especially the Avance group which is really dated (designed fully in Flash) . Does anyone know if these 2 co's are going to merged as that would save a lot of ££? The way both sites have not been updated it looks like this maybe on the cards?

Please note i don't have an investiment just wondering if anyone mored learned in the PSQ knew the answers?

Thanks Tim
