I have this urge to buy some of these because they are cheap.

I am now going to lie down in a darkened room until the urge is gone.

I believe that PJ will take park private wihin the next 6 months as between himself and his pension fund he owns 70% of the stock, a dipping short term share price can only be to his benefit, but as they say DYOR.

Park award contract to Catalyst

ADVFN NewsWire (10:40) - Park Group, the UK financial and marketing services company, has awarded Catalyst Solutions an implementation services contract as part of a major JD Edwards OneWorld project. Catalyst will provide full support, including solutions for Park Group's sales, distribution and financial systems.

Roger Staines, group IT director at Park, said: "The new system will produce significant benefits in terms of flexibility and the ability to keep pace with the ongoing development of our products and services."

Neil Thubron, sales manager for Catalyst's JD Edwards business, added: "We shall be working closely with Park and with JD Edwards to ensure the smooth implementation of the system, which it is intended should 'go live' early next year."

Park Group provides a variety of services to the public through a network of agents and also trades business-to-business. Included in its product offerings are High Street Vouchers, a market in which it is second only to Marks & Spencer, hampers and a range of corporate gifts. It also operates a 600-seat commercial call centre, supported by comprehensive fulfilment services, enabling clients to conduct their own comprehensive marketing campaigns.

Alastair Kerr, chief executive of Park, added: "With the introduction over the next 12 months of a complete e-commerce solution, Park Group expects to be among the first companies to offer clients a seamless service for internet ordering, shipment and product replenishment."

The classic stock that went south in a huge way when the chairman decided to get involved with a football club (well, OK, Everton). It has had approaches, buy-out offers etc. before, but PJ hs always refused to sell( set it up from scratch etc.etc.). having said that they seem on the right track now. My history with this one suggests I'll steer clear. You don't go back near the dog that bit you.

Wasn't expecting this...only just noticed it actually... RNS Number:8455D Park Group PLC 14 January 2000 PARK GROUP PLC ('Park' or 'the Company') Statement re increase in share price and current trading The Board of Park has noted today's rise in its share price and confirms that it has received a tentative approach that may or may not lead to an offer for the entire issued share capital othe Company. It is emphasised that this interest is at a very early stage. A further announcement will be made in due course. Since the announcement of interim results on 3 December 1999, the internal reorganisation of the Park Group's businesses has continued and as indicated in that announcement, the trading environment in each of the Group's businesses remains challenging. This is old news, but it reiterates what smallchange has said above: LONDON (AFX) - Park Group PLC said it expects its recently-launched Park Direct Credit business to move into profit this year. "We are budgeting for this business to move into profit at the trading level during the course of this year," the company said. It added that it intends to offer other financial products and services to customers in its different socio-economic groups and that after a year of "significant change" it has the the right policies to deliver "profitable growth". The comments came as the company revealed that costs incurred from the recent closure of its loss-making Spuddles potato snack business hit full-year to March results and sent the group into loss. Annual pretax loss was 5.5 mln stg against a profit of 6.7 mln stg for the same period last year. Spuddles, a business which made losses of 2.2 mln stg, produced write-off costs of 9.6 mln stg when it was closed in January. The loss per share was at 3.21 pence against last year's earnings of 2.77 pence. The final dividend was cut to 0.35 pence from 1.8 pence which adds up to a full-year dividend of 1.45 pence, down on last year's 2.98 pence. Overall group sales however were higher at 208.8 mln stg against 195.6 mln. "The past year has been one of significant change, a year in which we have not only bitten the bullet on Spuddles but... have placed increasing emphasis on developing our involvement in the fast growing financial services sector," the company said. "This change has already been reflected in the reclassification of our company's Stock Exchange listing to 'Speciality and other Finance' from 'Food Retailers'." It said its Park Online business is making good progress while its contract parking operation Jetlag is "successfully growing" its retail customer base while reducing its reliance on the more volatile market in airline amenity kits. vip/ak PS Smallchange, sorry I missed on your trip out here, got caught up with some work that took me away. regards WR

Park Group is now in a prime postition for a recovery play. The company has a core business of christmas hampers and was a very succesfull company untill the end of 1995. What sparked the reversal in fortunes for the company? They embarked on a project to make flavoured potato chips and spent nearly 15 Million in total on a factory and running expenses...they never sold any potato chips. However they have now paid all off the costs of this dog of a project off and are back to the core business as it stood in 1995 with a couple of additions. They conduct market research for the top retail outlets..TESCO Etc.. They also have a loans division specialising in medium interest rate loans. Trying to get more info on how the loans division is put together and the sort of revenue they can achieve etc... It looks like the companies share price is a little bit on the low side...so I bought some and am looking for a recovery to the 1.00 level. If you want to play it really safe then wait for the results..due soon and have a look at the amounbt of loss they make...hoping for about £5 million loss. The thing with the hampers industry is that in the summer months you make a loss as you take orders for hampers and in the next resukts you show the profits...the profits are normally the interim loss doubled. Mkt cap is now 35 million...if the company is back to 1995 standards I am hoping to see next years profit at 10 million... Make of this what you will...shares can go down as well as up...this is not investment advise...oh sod it and buy some..RAMP.... Vbrgds Smallchange.
