Erdogan warns of ‘high price’ if Turkish ships are attacked, after French planes buzz Ankara’s flotilla

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has threatened reprisals if anyone attacks the ship surveying disputed waters in the Mediterranean for oil and gas, after two French jets flew nearby during an exercise with the Greek fleet.

“We said that if you attack our Oruc Reis you will pay a high price, and they got their first answer today,” Erdogan said on Thursday in a speech in Ankara, without offering any details as to what might have happened.

The vessel, named after a 16th-century Ottoman pirate, started survey work earlier this week near the island of Kastellorizo, which belongs to Greece but is located near the southern coast of Turkey’s Antalya province.

Speaking about the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean, he stressed: “We told them to dare to attack Oruts Reyes, otherwise you will pay a heavy price. Today, they got the first answer”, but did not specify exactly what he means.

In his second speech today, Turkey’s President continued to hurl threats against Greece, said a new, tough, bloody campaign will be pursued, cited Turkish military entanglement in Iraq, Syria & Libya as Turkish response, and claimed his gov’t is under economic attack.

In recent days, there has been a crescendo of statements, extremely provocative by Turkish officials.

France sends jets and ships to tense east Mediterranean

France is deploying two Rafale fighter jets and a naval frigate in the eastern Mediterranean because of tensions between Greece and Turkey.

French President Emmanuel Macron has urged Turkey to halt oil and gas exploration in disputed waters in the area. A Turkish survey ship began such a mission on Monday, angering Greece.

Mr Macron told Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis that the French military would monitor the situation.

The area is rich in untapped energy.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the only solution in the Mediterranean was dialogue and that his country was not chasing adventure.

"If we act with common sense and reason, we can find a win-win solution that meets everyone's interests," he said.

There are also tensions around Cyprus over rival exploration rights. The Republic of Cyprus and Greece do not accept any such rights for Turkish-controlled northern Cyprus in the region.

Greek frigate Limnos rams Turkish frigate Kemalreis in East Mediterranean

Greek frigate Limnos has reportedly collided with or better say rammed Turkish frigate TCG Kemalreis destroying its propeller and causing serious damage. The incident has allegedly taken place on Wednesday.

According to the news website armyvoice.gr, the incident occurred in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, more or less in the area where the Turkish seismic research vessel Oruc Reis is conducting surveys accompanied by warships of the Turkish Navy.

The Greek news portal notes that the collision could have been the result of maneuvering in a small space in the area Greece says it is its continental shelf and Turkey claims it is its own.

U.S. Military Defends Moves Near Taiwan,

China Sends Forces to 'Safeguard' Territory

he United States is defending its military moves near Taiwan, where China has sent personnel in a show of force intended to defend Beijing's claims of sovereignty over the self-ruling island that receives support from Washington.

Air Force Senior Colonel Zhang Chunhui, spokesperson for the Chinese People's Liberation Army Eastern Theater Command, announced Thursday that his forces have recently conducted combat exercises from the northern to the southern stretches of the disputed Taiwan Strait. He said these were "necessary actions to be taken in response to the current security situation" in the region, where the U.S. military considers its growing presence within the Pentagon's purview of projecting power abroad.

"The United States is an Indo-Pacific nation and committed to remaining engaged in the region," Pacific Fleet spokesperson Navy Lieutenant James Adams told Newsweek.

Russia's top respiratory doctor quits over 'gross violations' of medical ethics that rushed through Putin's coronavirus 'vaccine'

•Professor Alexander Chucalin resigned from the health ministry's ethics council

•It appears Chucalin sought and failed to block its registration on 'safety' grounds

•He accused two leading medics involved in the drug of flouting medical ethics

Russia's leading respiratory doctor has quit over 'gross violations' of medical ethics that rushed through Putin's coronavirus 'vaccine'.

Professor Alexander Chuchalin quit the Russian health ministry's ethics council after making a fierce attack on the new Sputnik V drug ahead of the body approving its registration.

Amid deep scepticism among Western experts over the drug, it appears that Chuchalin sought and failed to block its registration on 'safety' grounds before quitting the ethics council

A smoking gun’: Scientists have confirmation of infectious coronavirus retrieved from hospital air

Skeptics of the notion that the coronavirus spreads through the air — including many expert advisers to the World Health Organization — have held out for one missing piece of evidence: proof that floating respiratory droplets called aerosols contain live virus and not just fragments of genetic material.

Now a team of virologists and aerosol scientists has produced exactly that: confirmation of infectious virus in the air.

“This is what people have been clamoring for,” said Linsey Marr, an expert in airborne spread of viruses who was not involved in the work. “It’s unambiguous evidence that there is infectious virus in aerosols.”

A research team at the University of Florida succeeded in isolating live virus from aerosols collected at a distance of seven to 16 feet from patients hospitalized with COVID-19 — farther than the 6 feet recommended in social distancing guidelines.

China Sanctions 11 US Politicians, Heads of Organizations

The number of Americans named by the ministry exactly equals the number of Hong Kong and Chinese officials placed on a sanctions list by the U.S. last week over the crackdown

China on Monday announced unspecified sanctions against 11 U.S. politicians and heads of organizations promoting democratic causes, including Senators Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, who have already been singled out by Beijing.

Foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian on Monday said the 11 had “performed badly” on issues concerning Hong Kong, where China has cracked down on opposition voices following its imposition of a national security law in the semi-autonomous southern Chinese city last month.

The number of Americans named by the ministry exactly equals the number of Hong Kong and Chinese officials placed on a sanctions list by the U.S. last week over the crackdown.

PLA fighter jets send clear message to Taiwan, US

According to media reports from the island of Taiwan, J-11 and J-10 fighter jets of the People's Liberation Army flew across the so-called "middle line" of the Taiwan Straits on Monday morning. This was clearly the Chinese mainland's response to US Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar's visit to the island. It was also a warning to island authorities that have recently cooperated with the US to contain China.

The island said PLA jets were tracked by land-based anti-aircraft missiles and were "strongly driven out." This is just self-entertaining propaganda of the island's military. The PLA has an absolute military advantage over Taiwan. Though the US is involved, the PLA holds a full strategic advantage. The island won't dare to take real action against the PLA's aircraft even with support of the US.

The US has repeatedly used the island of Taiwan as its pawn to contain the Chinese mainland. Azar's trip is the latest attempt in this regard. Pathetically, authorities of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have accepted its role willingly to stick to its wrongful "desinicization" path.

Pan African Resources shares are up threefold in the past four months, as new gold production looks set to hit 190,000 ounces

Mon 10 Aug 2020

Pan African has a long track record of gold production in South Africa

What a rollercoaster world we live in!

From the enforced shutdown of a considerable portion of its gold mining activities in in South African in March, Pan African Resources plc (LON:PAF)(JSE:PAN) has roared back bigger and stronger and better than ever, beating revised production forecasts and forging ahead with new project developments.

Along the way, the company’s share price has risen from its April 2020 nadir of 9p to its current price of 27p, a threefold rise in the space of a few months.

The backdrop, of course, has been the record run in the gold price, a favourable dollar-rand exchange rate, and the ability of Pan African to be nimble in its response to coronavirus itself, both in terms of the way it protects its workers and in the way it has been able to get production going again.

Initially, when the virus struck, it helped that not all Pan African’s operations are underground. The surface work, particularly the well-established tailings reprocessing operations, were allowed to continue to operate under strict guidelines, and this not only meant that significant cash was still coming into the company, even at the worst moments of the crisis, but also that there was a sense of continuity.

Pan African never wholly shut down, the virus never wholly got on top of it. And once the South African government approved the re-opening of the rest of its operations the company came back with a vengeance.

“Covid continues to have an impact,” says chief executive Cobus Loots. “And our operations are geared to health and safety. We’ve had to re-educate our workforce, but we feel we’ve done that quite well.”

And with the workforce comfortably back in place under the new dispensation, Pan African has been confident enough to put out production guidance for the current year of 190,000 ounces. And, with the gold price roaring past the US$2,000 per ounce mark, there’s never been a better time to make such an announcement.

What’s more that combination of a strong production outlook with a high gold price means that Pan African is likely to be debt free by the end of the year, and looking at paying a dividend. For a company that was in some difficulty just a few years ago, it’s a remarkable turnaround.

But it comes as Loots has kept his eye on the ball, and stayed focused on what the company does best. In theory, supported by the company’s strong cashflow, he could go out into the market and acquire new projects and new ounces, and build value that way.

And it’s possible that may happen. But not in the first instance.

“The first order of business is re-investing in our own assets,” says Loots. “Why should we go out paying for acquisitions when we can develop our own projects.”

Given that one of the company’s flagship operations, at Barberton, has been mined successfully for decades and decades, there is some wisdom in what he says. New parts of Barberton continue to be developed, and recent ore sampling has delivered shown grades as high as 40,000 grams per tonne, or 4% gold, so it’s not hard to see why Loots is reckoning on at least 20 years of mine life left in some parts of it.

Meanwhile, at Evander, the recent commitment to a major new spend at Egoli allows for the future addition of 72,000 ounces per year over nine years.

For a mid-tier company, these are significant numbers, especially since the internal rate of return, done at what now seems the conservative gold price of US$1,650 per ounce, runs at just over 50%. As Paul Newman once said: “Why go out for hamburger when you can have steak at home?”

Of course, everything depends on the company’s social licence to operation, and Loots, having come up through the Black Empowerment structure himself, is as cognisant of this as anyone.

“There is a need in the communities in which we operate to make sure that people earn a decent living,” he says.

“A lot of people are desperate, and working successfully where we do demands that we address that. So we are active in our ESG. We support schools and a clinic, and we provide food to some of our people.”

Gold Likely To Double And Then Triple From Here

Summary

•The precious metals sector of the market is now gathering pace with or without you.

•The two main drivers behind the demand for gold are the demise of the fiat currencies such as the US Dollar and a gloomy economic outlook.

•Both the currencies and the S&P 500 have had their day and there will be a rush for the exit.

•Most importantly, the fever pitch reached in a gold bull market is like no other and boundaries will be exceeded time and time again as the panic to buy gets a grip.

Introduction

There is now little doubt that the precious metals sector of the market has entered a bull phase. A cursory glance at the charts for gold, silver and the producers clearly demonstrate the acceleration in value that has already taken place, rewarding those who were bold enough to establish a position in what was once a truly unloved area for investors.

Gold

The two main drivers behind the demand for gold are the demise of the fiat currencies such as the US Dollar and a gloomy economic outlook. The maniacal way in which central bankers are trying to print their way to prosperity is mind boggling. If prosperity depended on printing money, then they could print a million dollars for each and every one of us without any adverse effect on the financial system. This is of course a preposterous course of action to take; however, the money supply is being inflated to record levels and so investors are turning to hard assets in order to protect wealth.
