08/3/2002 06:56 | Very interesting development. ADVFN are making a serious mistake by editing or removing any information which is already in the public domain, for example, an address that might be found in a telephone book, or one that is registered with legal entities, such as company records. The whole point of people registering themselves is to make their whereabouts known. Public companies are exactly that, public. There should be transparency at every level of their business, except in conditions of commercial confidence. Frankly the company reporting system is a shambles and in a recession far to much bad news only emerges after damaging speculation, or huge delays. Any kind of interference with a thread undermines this site's credibility. I only edit my posts for typing errors. In this case, I would very much like to see the thread that has been deleted and am unhappy with ADVFN that this is not possible. The role of the MM's is far from neutral. The spread is their cut and some of the spreads on these small cap companies are a disgrace, 25,40%. That means the MM's are picking up a quarter to a half of the market value of a company with every cycle of trades. Not only are they setting prices, but the market in small shares is a self regulatory environment. This is far from effective. I could instance a number of situations where contentious events pass unremarked, though an independent regulator would surely take note. As it is complaints about the MM'S go to the MM's, not very confidence building IMHO. My friendly local MP, (not German - Pinkle) is a Treasury Minister and I think it is time to have a word and start to get this market put in order with some serious regulation, monitoring the MM's and the company rumour mongers. | pendragon2

07/3/2002 23:12 | Either way it will generate interest in PPB which was the last thing they were looking for. | pinkle
07/3/2002 23:09 | It would serve them right if this causes a rush on PPB in the morning wouldn't it? | craigm

07/3/2002 22:37 | This has probably been noticed by the media anyway. One thing, although it's not my style to get the papers involved at this kind of stage, I bloody well would if they tried to sue me for libel, that's for sure. The MM etc might have power to gag people on selective BBs, might even reach to some of the media companies but the internet is vast, that's what I like about it. If they want to send me court papers, party on! By doing this, the MM have made a big mistake, they have only succeeded in convincing me even further not to do business with them and they have given themselves an even worse reputation than they had before. I thought it was only me having difficulties with them but after today it's now becoming apparent that many, many other people are dissatisfied with them as well. By publicly trying to gag us, they have shown the world what they are like. The cry that the MM is losing money seems ridiculous to me, the market is stacked in their favour. | pinkle

Not my style to ring the papers, but would be fun though, what would be the headline do you think? | pinkle
07/3/2002 22:05 | Pinkle give the sun news paper a ring this is front page stuff!! they love this sort of thing and they will do some digging. C | chicken
07/3/2002 22:01 | and do you have any thoughts on how long you'll have to wait Pinkle? Heres hoping ADVFN wind up doing us a favour by highlighting the stock further :-) | wensleydale
07/3/2002 21:59 | The situation has come about because the MM didn't move the price up inline with the interest being shown in the stock. He tried to to keep the lid on it by keeping the price down and ringing round offering a premium on the bid, this decision backfired on him because the offer price didn't go up to deter buyers. Buying continued forcing him to react, his decision this time was to increase the offer and reduce the bid, effectively suspending the market. Investors are not going to sell him back the stock they have just bought for 1.5p for the bid of 0.75p when there have been nothing but buys. If he'd kept the price inline with the buying interest he would not be in this predicament. I'm sure that if had been selling that was taking place, the price would definitely have kept pace! | craigm |
