Hey thanks richgit very interesting post!
It's about 'the trend being your friend' after all.
Sectors go in and out of popularity and its definitely about spotting the next best sector and so on I agree.
I enjoyed the internet boom as well and saw the pattern you describe, was learning then and I didn't have so much cash to spare but it was exciting.
Do you remember Infobank?!
Let's hope that our gold and silver plays mean we were in the right place at the right time with this next boom and that we were right!
You never know!

Just checked the roadshow announcement. It says July 22-23 but I guess it should read August 22-23.

hazl.

I had the luck to spot the very beginning of the Dot-Com era.

It started with a stock I noticed that had nothing but some silly internet Game, that soared 13 times or more in days.

The frustration of holding stocks for years to get a 10 bagger( and some that didn`t)caused me to wonder what happened with that particular stock -and why !

I had to know, what it was about.

Of course in reality that stock was illiquid, yet made someone a nice return, and
it was a very early signal of something extraordinary happening .

In the months to then come,it was becoming obvious that Internet anything and Techy stocks were in demand,so you bought all the rubbish you could lay your hands on that could get caught in the euphoria.
I gamble sold near everything else to do so,bar my Gold stocks, which I was soon able to continue also adding to.

The time came where you could "trade" like crazy and make multiples in weeks
(not years)by throwing out of the window all the rules you believed in previously.I sold some 20 baggers thinking I was banking the insanity only to watch some of them go on to 100 baggers or more.

Remember- the era of the "City Slickers" ?

I knew the nonsense had to end and what I was doing was all wrong, yet ignoring
what was happening was also senseless,as some funds set up to bet against the Dot-Com went bust as it continued to utter insanity, with Baltimore in the FTSE 100 the likes of Knutsford group with £5million in the Bank soaring to £850 Million Market Cap and countless others, along with the likes of Last Minute .Com raising an absolute obscenity of funding.

Like many I made a serious fortune on paper, yet also like most didn`t exit that era with the full fortune, after enormous Capital Gains Tax,and then the difficulty in judging when the Rollercoaster had truly come to its end.

Like many I look back and wonder why I didn`t quit when I was so far ahead of the game, but then we also wonder why Drug Barons that have made $100 Million don`t just quietly retire before they end up in prison or get murdered by a rival gang,or why Warren Buffet,at His age, cares about creating more money.

In a couple of years, just maybe Gold stocks will be similar, and if so there
will be the time for the nonsense T+ trading that slowly busts so many punters
that borrow positions they cannot truly pay.

It will certainly all be a hindsight, yet like the Dot-Com era requires some exposure foresight of "what if ?"

This will be my final final all in of Capital into a risk/reward of that hoped foresight, and if this doesn`t work I will exit with 0s and memories of "what if"

"The Final countdown" has played in my head for the past few years,as having followed Gold for so long- this is the time I have waited for, which should
have been at $1900 yet the Fraudsters were already in control.

Now - the Final Countdown of Physical versus Paper, with China assumedly underpinning $1200 and an appetite to take it all,as others queue up to
compete with them.

Let Fort Knox empty ?

"The final countdown ? "

The price is slowly creeping up since the 15.5p low last week. Buying now, pre results announcement, seems like a no brainer to me. OMI would hardly be embarking on an investor road show if the results were mediocre Imo.

I think I am saying just that tom.
The next part of the year looks quite good for gold,I think, but we will have the odd few days where it retraces.
It has always been thus.
I probably put it badly.
Depends if you are a trader or are building a position perhaps?

Gold is on a roll now without a doubt,no interest rises in US after the terrible GDP numbers negative interest rates in many countries and the icing on the cake is US elections. With respect9th August a down day how does that work out.The shorts got caught out Friday and next week bodes well for gold.

richgit, straightforward and agree with your strategy.
Am sure there will be some poor days in Gold, have read around 9th August(who knows?) could be a dodgy time but then it might well just go up again.
I am keeping some through the ups and downs or it just gets so complicated.

As you say how can any of us actually know how it is going to pan-out?
All we can do is have an educated guess! imo

I really cannot advise,as we all have different- agendas,targets,risks/rewards and amounts of Capital, and none of us can own everything we may fancy in the numbers game,as we would be stretched too thinly.

I can Guarantee that in 5 years time, sods law and the mere glory of hindsight
will confirm the one and only stock we needed and could have bet the house on.

When the Market sentiment truly changes I will rarely be posting,as the BB`s will be overrun.

I would merely suggest that if you are sticking to London listed, then keep an
eye on POG and its market news ,as in real terms its debt is not much greater than what could be the costs of Capex to bring into production their enormous Fire power, yet maybe better at 10p as that could suggest the Market is more convinced there are no skeletons left in the Cupboard.
Once(and assuming)the road is clear POG would reasomably be on its way to being valued more in $Billions than $millions.

Keep your eye on a few true sub £5 Million Micro Caps for any truly defining news which could propel them an eventual huge multiple beyond the rise on such news.

When the Market Caps of the Majors eventually rise towards the stratosphere
with the Juniors then in tow,all becomes comparatively proportionate in potential of "gold anything" in Market cap values

The Good, the bad and even the ugly.

Let`s see if the Fraudsters can save the day for those in trouble with paper Gold, and no doubt we will never know if they have to collude with or beg the East to stop buying for a couple of weeks,to avoid a sudden huge price explosion upwards.

Is it possible we will witness a massive co-ordinated attack to take paper Gold
down ,and then the soon after explosion upwards ?
If so- it will have to be done in the not too distant future before the usual
Gold buying season is upon us

I wish I knew, but then I am not trading anything as such, just simply holding and patiently waiting

richgit ~ I know you're into a number of junior gold stocks. OMI is my top holding and, in no particular order have: HUM HOC AAU EUA CNR and CGH but have I overlooked any where I
might push your shares along !! Thanks, and for various reasons buying physical is not appropriate for me.
