05/9/2017 05:55 | Opitbiotix biotech company signs sweet deal with Tata Chemicals A biotechnology company developing products to tackle obesity, high cholesterol and diabetes has struck a manufacturing agreement with Tata Chemicals. Under a deal set to be announced today, Optibiotix Health, the Aim-quoted company, has granted the rights to the Indian-listed food ingredients company, part of Tata Group, to produce a sugar from its cholesterol and blood pressure-lowering probiotic for use in food and over-the-counter products. The agreement builds on a deal in December between the company and Tata Chemicals to develop weight loss products for the Indian market. The deal with Tata Chemicals, which follows trials in November, is limited to India, but Optibiotix is in talks with other companies about manufacturing the sugar in markets, such as the US. The financial terms of the deal are not expected to be disclosed, but Optibiotix is likely to receive royalty payments of 10 to 15 per cent. Stephen O’Hara, chief executive of Optibiotix, and its biggest shareholder with a near-13 per cent stake, said that the sugar could be utilised in snacks and baked products. “We believe the combination of Optibiotix’s ability to develop ingredients which can modify an individual’s microbiome, and Tata’s research and manufacturing expertise, international reputation and global reach, places both companies at the forefront of global microbiome research and product development,” he said. It caps a busy period for the company which spun off Skin Bio Therapeutics, a skincare company, in April on Aim. The Aim listing helped to boost Optibiotix’s pre-tax profits to £3.1 million in the six months to the end of May, up from a loss £713,772 the year before. Shares in Optibiotix closed down 3p at 71p before the deal was announced, valuing the company at £55.8 million. | f3rdinand

04/9/2017 21:25 | Good to see SBTX creeping up. Nicely poised now ahead of news, which much be imminent (trial plans and manufacturing scale up news). Given how little free float there is and the lock in period for 60%+ of share register it could really fly! | trotterstrading
