17/12/2024 16:43 | the government are in good company with Diageo's management Skinny as they also don't seem to be able to organise a p*ssup in their own (Guinness) brewery 🤣🍺 | mcunliffe1
17/12/2024 16:34 | Off to my daughter's Christmas concert at her school tonight. She plays the clarinet. | gateside
17/12/2024 16:11 | It is incredulous that they (the Government) didn't see this coming as a result of their incompetence - 'p*ssups and breweries ' spring to mind. | skinny
17/12/2024 15:53 | Surely that's not today MrP? Any idea why? | skinny
17/12/2024 15:46 | Why would you do that? You've got sun! We've got headlights and drizzle and it's colder than I expected with it being so dark. I did a short run on the bike and wondered if I should have lights. I'm still feeling tired but the weather does not help. I might add that everywhere seems dead again. When does the Christmas rush start? I did notice that there were lot of pickers when I called in Tesco for some bits but otherwise nothing like the jam in M&S yesterday. (I still recommend their cheap but delicious hazelnut wafers - with no palm oil!) Maybe it's all gone online this year. I've just about done my seasonal shopping but I'm struggling to get into the spirit. Usually, getting on top of it cheers me up. It probably does not help that our Wi-Fi worked well for two days then turned cr*p again so I can see a 4th complaint going to BT. | aleman
17/12/2024 15:28 | Very tempting to jump in! | mrphil
17/12/2024 14:54 | As it stands, I'm down @1.5% on the day. | skinny
17/12/2024 14:45 | Having gradually crept up to a reasonable return over the bulk of the year, it will be extremely depressing if those gains were to be lost in the final days. | mrphil
17/12/2024 14:09 | In European equities on Tuesday, the CAC 40 in Paris was up 0.3%, while the DAX 40 in Frankfurt was up 0.2%. | philanderer
17/12/2024 13:52 | Unfortunately the UK has been in decline for sometime. It the something for nothing culture that is deep set within that is the major issue. Too many economically inactive. Unfortunately covid accelerated that and the easy promises about sun lit uplands etc didn't help. I don't think Labour have got off to a good start, but we were already deep in the mire and something needed to change. Frying pan & fire spring to mind though. All my high yielding shares have had a torrid time recently. REITs are 10-30% down from their highs as are my (much smaller) renewables. It seems the feeling is why take the risk when the yield on guilts is so good? I'll have a lot of cash come january from the API sale looking for a home. I need yield to replace that lost - I hope things will have stabilised by then. | dr biotech
17/12/2024 13:38 | So far today...2 up2 unchanged 24 down | gateside
17/12/2024 13:32 | Looking very grim today - Santa Rally - Pish! | skinny
17/12/2024 13:21 | Thanks for the reminder Skinny. My M.P. won with a majority of approx. 4950. There are over 5,400 signatories in our constituency. Normal people would be depressed by that fact but a layer of thick skin is immediately added to the hide of an m.p. as part of the swearing-in process. | mcunliffe1
17/12/2024 12:29 | SBLK a bit of a shocker. Disappointing to hear familiar rhetoric about greater benefits to shareholders from buybacks, while cutting dividends, when dividends are integral to the buy case, as opposed to the sell case, which is all too evident in the share price! But also underscores Dean's message about over due dependence on any one dividend payer. In the meantime, infrastructure ITs are moving to lower lows as gilt yields rise, further calling into question whether their dividends are serviceable. I had though to discount my own revenue stream by 20%; now more realistically, I'm not so sure. Bruciefolio down .7% as a I write. HIX -.9%. Allshare -.8% RWS does seem to be one bright spot and anyone interested in charts might wish to take a look. I see a potential trend reversal, which seems to be building. Scores well on Stocko, too, including 'Best Dividends'. | brucie5
17/12/2024 12:00 | US markets are firmly in bubble territory. | justiceforthemany
17/12/2024 11:59 | Primarily the fault of the FCA - minimal to zero regulation and a free hand is given to short sellers in the UK. Follow the hard mentality also. Tesla trades at 100x next year's earnings but people still buy. Crypto has no fundamentals behind it but again people just keep buying. No one bothers to look at balance sheets or income statements that side of the pond it seems... | justiceforthemany
17/12/2024 10:33 | Lack of institutional buyers and an abundance of hedge fund shorters. Need to be careful; if this continues the marketplace will be tiny in 5 to 10 years. | scottishfield
17/12/2024 10:27 | Morning everyone. Miserable dark, overcast day. Portfolio hammered. Recession is either coming or here already. London market falling right out of favour. Odds for SHEL and RIO leaving are shortening. | philanderer
17/12/2024 10:27 | Have they had a 37% rise in minimum wage since 2021 with only a 3% rise in money supply. Presumably 1/4 of them have been sacked to pay the rest. Santa can mysteriously have inflation over target without any money growth and full employment with huge pay rises because he is magic. | aleman
17/12/2024 10:07 | That or the Elf's are on strike demanding pay rises and the right to WFH! | carpingtris |
