14/12/2024 11:18 | D.F. doing consistently well in recent years is interesting. I believe he religiously uses a mechanical weighting allocation to trim and add to (larger cap?) stocks after modest movements. Possibly this method might perform well in a sideways market, whereas such as I only tend to buy and sell the lot after larger moves. Perhaps you might care to elaborate on your technique, DF? The sun is out and the house is heeating itself for a change! What a lovely change. | aleman
14/12/2024 10:41 | Good Morning. Thanks wllm - for reference :- I preferred 2019 & 2020 :-) | skinny

Looks very tight from 2nd-7th, even 8th has an outside chance. DF is a model of consistency though finishing 1st-2021, 3rd-2022 and 2nd-2023. Will it be a top 3 finish 4 years running? wllm :) | wllmherk
14/12/2024 00:05 | My very poor final quarter continues with REIT'S, Renewables and SBLK doing the damage. Out of 18 stocks 16 fell on the week. Weather is also pretty miserable with very little sunshine, grey, cold and murky. Tomorrow at least looks sunny but cold, I'm playing tennis at 10am, temperature forecast to be 1c. Worst Faller: FGEN -6.80% Best Riser: NCYF +0.38% On the week: -1.72% YTD: +1.93% Wrap up warm gents, wllm :) | wllmherk
13/12/2024 23:26 | Swings and roundabouts, Gateside. We're exposed to (slightly?) different levels of risk to suit our needs and different risk levels perform differently at different times. It's just an opportunity to have another look at what you are doing. You might want to make a tweak or you might decide it's just noise and will revert to the mean in time. 13/12/2024 20:31 | Portfolio down yet again That is 9 down weeks out of the last 10 Beginning to find this underperformance a bit embarrassing to declare YTD is -3.68% | gateside
13/12/2024 19:01 | I finished up 0.07% and flat on the week - YTD +2.81%. Enjoy your weekend. | skinny
13/12/2024 18:26 | -0.32% folio, [FTSE All-Share -0.16%] My falling short of the indices continues, a wretched week. CLIG, GSF, SREI were the gainers. Worst fallers were BA., JSG. On the week : -1.01% Faller of the week : BA. Share of the week : HSBA. Folio YTD : +6.53% Gloomy windless day, so much for renewable output. Have a brighter weekend. | blueliner
13/12/2024 18:11 | Duff end to the week for me, -0.45%. More reds than blues, my REITs have hit (or are close to multi year lows). Biggest value faller AUSC, a small company trust that I hold way to many of. Down slightly on the week to 6.45% Great to play tennis this afternoon. Cold but still. | dr biotech
13/12/2024 17:42 | -0.34% this week - need that DLG takeover to be 100% confirmed for my final boost before year end. YTD is now +6.5% Good weekend all! Been grey and horrible pretty much all week and drizzle for a good 24hrs or so - roll on spring! | carpingtris
13/12/2024 17:16 | Ended the day the wrong side of the line resulting in -0.20% on the week, so back down to +6.14% YTD Looks like there may be an opportunity to give the boat a run tomorrow morning which will be the first time for several weeks. Our walk with friends that got postponed last week has been rescheduled for Monday so here's hoping. Enjoy your weekends. MrP | mrphil
13/12/2024 17:02 | Portfolio +0.11%, again mainly red but helped out by good gains for MKS, DGE, GRG and IMB. +0.18% for the week, making +6.94% YTD Horrible weather continues, dark, damp and cold 5C. Very nice old fashioned christmas lunch, turkey, crackers and paper hats :-) Just a sandwich required later on. QPR at Bristol City tomorrow. Off to the cinema to see the highly rated 'Conclave' Hike on sunday will need the big boots. Good weekend everyone. | philanderer
13/12/2024 17:01 | Up 0.2% today. Boom was up again, 5.26% and CORD helped, up 1.78%. The rest was a bit of a mixed bag, the main disappointer was EWI down 1.52%. So overall up a little However down on the week by 0.37% and therefore up on the year by 6.17%. Good weekend all. | scottishfield
13/12/2024 16:54 | Down 0.11% on the day, On the week -0.47% YTD +4.15% | malcolm caton
13/12/2024 16:50 | Mixed bag with more reds but the STCM bid did its whole penny (7%) move in the right direction today. +0.1%. YTD +3.7%. Shopped at SBRY on my travels into W. Yorks. Busy enough to be a pain, with too many couples, pickers and self-scanners making it worse. A couple of useful Nectar offers but too much Christmas stuff pushing some regular stuff out. Picked up some pork pies from an old favourite butcher to have with salad for dinner. That shopping centre that corroberated the last recession/GFC with 8 or 9 empty units now has 13 empty units out of 44. It's really bad out there and I do not believe we are not in a significant recession. Small company news is too bad for us not to be. I just do not believe the official stats. (They did get revised slightly worse in time after the last recession. After 3 years, the mean revision was 0.11% down per quarter for the 8 quarters of 2008/9 - so 0.9% lower at the end. I suspect we will see something like this for 2024 - so maybe GDP -1% despite population growth over 1% - so GDP per capita maybe -2%, at a guess.) Grey all day and mizzle on hills but felt warm enough to do a few things outside. I cycled for coffee but was sluggish. Cycle paths still poor in places but improving. Washed the car and swept the drive of quite a lot of leaves and twigs when I got back. The improvement to both was well worth the effort. 7.4C after 5.0C. Hope the weather improves so folk can have good weekend. | aleman
13/12/2024 15:50 | I have been saying for sometime that Rachel Reeves will go down in history as probably our worst ever chancellor. I see there is now a poll out (admittedly in the Express) where 97% agree with me! In our 30 odd years in business, we have actually had some good labour chancellors and certainly not all conservative ones have been great, but this really takes the biscuit. | mrphil
13/12/2024 15:47 | Sounds fun MCunliffe1, we had both of our grandkids on Thursdays before they started at school, then we'd take them to school. That all stopped when Covid struck and we went from almost having them living with us to not even being able to be in the same house! My goodness they were stupid times! | mrphil
13/12/2024 11:42 | 3/7 on the quiz - thanks Gateside. And, appreciate the update there MRPHIL. I am SO, SO, glad I am now retired. I can watch the defenestration of UK plc from the sidelines. Would wish it otherwise however. Youngest grandchild watch with Mrs MC today (every Friday). He's just shy of three and a live wire with an evil nappy production facility 💩 | mcunliffe1
13/12/2024 10:47 | phil, I presume you will be there as the model pupil? 😁 | mrphil

13/12/2024 10:40 | Morning everyone. Dark, cold and a drizzle. Out to lunch today. I'm my wife's +1 at her fitness club's christmas bash. Quiz = 3/7 , I knew two. | philanderer
13/12/2024 10:34 | MCunliffe1, we manufacture & distribute lighting products for the commercial market. After 30 years in business we were happily ticking along minding our own business but around a year ago we decided to invest and expand the business with all the extra stress that brings. All was going according to plan until August when we saw a lot of uncertainty across the market which has worsened following the budget. This government's actions to date and likely plans for the future have caused a rethink so we have scaled back our expansion plans and made some necessary cutbacks to control costs. In business, you have to adjust according to your market but I'm afraid that's something this government seems to have no clue about. | mrphil
