If you look at the actual prices , the spread is usually reasonably tight , it's just a small company, but the indicative spread is usually wrong.
Good to see a strong performance , rather better than most of my portfolio.

Is there a reason why there is such a big spread on buy sell here ?

Nichols is a defensive pick for Berenberg

Beverage group Nichols (NICL) is benefiting from market momentum and is a defensive pick in a challenging market, according to Berenberg.

Analyst Ashton Olds retained his ‘hold’ recommendation and target price of £13.25 on the maker of Vimto, which fell 3.2% to £13.05 on Thursday.

He said a first-quarter update ‘highlighted prevailing momentum in the UK market and provides a positive read-through to the broader soft drinks sector’.

‘A buoyant sales performance, underpinned by distribution growth and market share gains, has offset incremental cost inflation,’ said Olds.

‘Off the back of this performance, we have left our operating profit expectations broadly unchanged. We remain “hold”-rated on Nichols given its premium valuation to UK soft drink peers but view it as a defensive exposure in a challenging equity market.’

Good to see the CEO and CFO buying some shares with their own money (i.e. not management incentive plan).

It's a great little company this one. I'm happy to hold what I have left here. The big positive versus BAG (which I also hold) is that this has real overseas growth potential.

IC says hold , awaiting their Out of Home review , hit by the outlet covid closures. I see that the Vimto squash now outsells the carbobated.25X prospective P/E.

Sold out this morning at a 20% profit.
P/E is around 30 which I can not justify.
Dividend is also poor yielding 2%
I thought the statement yesterday had a negative undertone also re: business today vs pre pandemic.
AG Barr looks better value.

Hmmm, around £6m to be allocated to SAYE and LTIP pots. Hope they can deliver similar benefits to the shareholders, maybe a special dividend of similar amount. That would approximate a special of around 16p per share.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt, current trading and the prelims due in a few weeks must be solid to make this announcement now.

Although it's interesting that NICL have chosen to buy shares from existing issued capital, rather than issue new shares for SAYE and LTIP obligations. Maybe the family does not want any dilution, can't remember the last time NICL issued any shares.

Either way, we should benefit from a steady buyer supporting the share price.
