05/1/2009 08:22 | More than 10 bids expected this week according to the FT on 26th Dec. Imo price will be anywhere between 6-8p at some point this week. Jason Streets at Evolution Securities had quoted a figure of 8p in mid-December. Blue Planet will consider any offers but they quoted a minimum price of 20p as a very conservative valuation. With their 6.7% stake they can round a few shareholders to ensure the highest possible price is offered. | treacle28

05/1/2009 07:35 | 'Even on most conservative basis, the think the minimum current value of New Star is around 20p per share but more realistically between 40-50p – plus it has the ability to shed costs.' In case New Star is sold to a rival, Murray says the overlap will create cost saving opportunities. 'If somebody like Jupiter or Gartmore acquire New Star, they won't need two head offices, two boards of directors or even two fund managers...The cost saving will be enormous which means that the possibility for profit from the operating costs of £102 million will have a pre-tax margin of around 70-80%. Murray also reckons New Star may de-list. He argues the five banks which paid off the company's debt for preference shares at a rate far higher than New Star's current share price, are unlikely to sell at a loss. 'If they de-list and get their house in order, and then re-list again or sell themselves when the market has picked up in 12-24 months, they will come back with much higher levels than the current share price. We think it will come back to minimum of 50 pence within a year.' | treacle28

04/1/2009 18:03 | Be warned : This is a common practice of treacle 28 to quote price targets many multiples of the current price, fair enough if you intend to stick it out but treacle28 is a nasty pump and dumper who always sells well below those price targets when the T10 runs out, he/she will always spam other threads trying to get people to buy before the offload, a great example was PUR where on that thread he/she constantly posted "20-25p" targets but sold for 7p. Dyor here and ignore treacle 28. | 8trader
04/1/2009 17:41 | the overall stockmarket rebounding should help things along here too... | mister md

04/1/2009 10:16 | Looking for an all share deal with Aberdeen on a 10 for 1 basis, or at a push 12 for 1, could easily be very profitable here this week. | wardy3
03/1/2009 19:23 | Thanks - One of the pieces says it's £12bn under mgt, not 14 but the overall story looks the same... Looks like a candidate - Off to dig further | chrysippus
03/1/2009 19:12 | Fairdeal2008 - 19 Dec'08 - 10:49 - 375 of 419 From padfoot on 3i Just trying to get a handle on value here before trying my luck. Given past deals fund firms may sell for more than 5 percent of assets under management at the top of the equity markets, but bear markets can throw up real bargains. Insight Investment bought Rothschild Asset Management in December 2002, near the trough of the last bear market, for a mere 0.6 percent of assets. If this did go for a debt equity swap of 75% 25% that leaves these shares worth an equivalnt market cap of £30m (4x £7.5m current cap) With 14billion under managment a rate of .6% gives value of 84m thats £50 million upside of here. One quatre being £21millionor 3x the current price about 9p? Help can anyone spot the flaws in my thinking this looks like a no brainer? SID | knowing |
