However, the investment bank argued: "We believe the sector implications from the current difficulty in credit markets in absorbing risky LBO debt are fairly limited because the amount of deeply subordinated debt in potential water LBO structures is relatively small."

Pennon Group, which has recently been touted as a target for a big European predator such as Aguas de Barcelona, crept up a penny to 617½p. Just before the market closed, Northumbrian Water - which is also frequently cited as a potential takeover candidate - was buoyed 13¼ to 317½p.

After UBS said that leveraged buy-out activity in the water sector is still likely because it requires a relatively small amount of deeply subordinated debts and carries less risk, buyers dived into Northumbrian Water, 13¼p higher at 317½p. Up 18½p at one stage, Pennon added 1p at 617½p on continuing talk of a French bid.

Hope they do for you sllab, I'm only in NWG, bought last week, before the drop.
At this price I am just back in the money. Looking forward to some big upside here as it must be the 'banker' of the water section.

And UBS gave pnn a 'neutral' this morning!

The broker reiterated its 'buy' rating on Severn Trent and Northumbrian Water Group, which it believes offers large upside to potential takeout valuations.

That came out this morning...delayed action. LOL

Not complaining with this move (it's the only blue I have) but would be nice to have a clue as to what's causing it. AGM tomorrow, can't have this effect or can it.
Ideas anyone?

looks to me as if the uptrend from sept last year is still in place and i think an advance to 320 is likely.this is in my opinion one of the safest shares on the market.steady increases in div.it doesnt need takeover rumours to support it.all in my opinion.

Fair comments optomistic. I always welcome balanced debate. I personally trade on chart patterns, with supporting indicators. I bought recently at 312p when the graph showed a break up of a double bottom. However, it qucikly broke down through 307p (an apparent support level!) and when I watched the MACD over the same period it showed a potential down turn and therefore I took the hit and bolted.

I agree with your fundermental sentiments but I am completely out of the market at the moment and will be for the next 10 days. I think the fire sale is yet to come.

Good luck to you.

Ialwayswinatmonopoly,
The RSI is at 35, the last time it was at that level the share price climbed from 310 to 325.
Individual indicators cannot be relied upon for future movement, only a guide to suggest further reseach IMO.
As to losing 50p in the next 20 trading days, yes that is possible, that will depend on market forces, it is also possible that the share price could gain 50p, unlikely I agree but this is a volatile market.
I'm now in the stock once more and do take comfort that NWG provide a steady stream of growing dividends as well as being a strong potential t/o target.
I have traded this stock several times in the past but this time I am looking to hold for the speculation of a bid.
regards

MACD shows convergence on the zero line. ARRRRRRRHHHHHHHHH!!!

We could easily lose another 50p within next 20 trading days.

I would srongly recommend anyone to sell at 295-300p
