02/2/2007 07:58 | Water companies were also in demand. Kelda, Britain's third-largest supplier, added 6p to 933p on revived bid talk. Traders speculated on a possible offer from rival United Utilities or a private equity-backed management buyout. United edged up 2.5p to 763.5p. Hopes of further consolidation - both Thames Water and AWG have recently been taken out - pushed Severn Trent 11p higher to £14.15 and Northumbrian Water up 1.25p to 293.25p. | sllab101
02/2/2007 07:57 | Credit Suisse cast an eye over the UK water sector, starting coverage on Northumbrian Water with a "neutral" stance but cautioning | sllab101
01/2/2007 13:16 | praipus no problem . | sllab101
01/2/2007 12:51 | Thanks sllab101 - hope you dont mind have also posted this on the ECWC thread too. | praipus
31/1/2007 22:20 | What I was referring to was the fact that last time the regulator allowed water co's to increase prices significantly, this had a marked effect on the share price I cannot see that happening next time the regulator looks at the companies and tells them what they are and are not allowed to do. Anyway, sold all mine today at 296, +126 :-)) | seymour clearly
31/1/2007 15:10 | Speculation of MBO or bid pushed KEL up this morning. | optomistic
31/1/2007 14:48 | Hello Praipus, I think you have misunderstood my post and comment re: what Seymour Clearly said. I was saying that even if tighter regulations were on the way, it would affect all water co's, yet Kelda's and Severn Trent's share price are up. So why should NWG be singled out. Actually the share price of NWG did go up, though it has since retraced some of that gain. | whatwoman
31/1/2007 13:08 | This is nothing to do with regulation - Thames are about to spend £150 m sorting it out so I'm not convinced it will cause us or any other stakeholder a problem. | praipus
31/1/2007 12:41 | Ofwat got a pasting from the House of Common Public Accounts select committee. This is bound to encourage them to toughen up regulation | jzd
31/1/2007 11:56 | Seymour Clearly and Whatwoman - "Tighter regulation" what are you talking about? | praipus
31/1/2007 11:46 | Looks like someone has changed that dodgy washer today, lets hope the drip will now stop forever!!! | aspers
31/1/2007 08:36 | Looks like they do Whatwoman | alan@bj
31/1/2007 08:21 | Tighter regulations will affect all water co's, but just look at Kelda's share price up 24.5p to date. Somebody somewhere likes it. Now, why can't somebody like NWG as much. | whatwoman
30/1/2007 21:28 | What is the tighter regulation your refer to? My understanding is that much of the UK water mains infrastructure needs replacement and I'cant see Mr Brown or Blair putting their hands in their/our pockets when theres a que of Private Equity houses prepared to do so. Regulation is becomming more transparent in the UK and Europe as far as I'm aware. | praipus
30/1/2007 21:09 | Don't often post here. NWG has performed really well. Upside: Chance of takeover Downside: Risk of tighter regulation soon - remember that they rose partly because of looser regulation allowing prices to rise above inflation. I'm smug of course, having held from 170p ish. I am looking to offload on the next leg up as I believe the risk of tighter regulation will limit futire gains. Just my 2p worth. | seymour clearly
30/1/2007 21:05 | Is it not about time NWG fixed this leaky tap.....a constant drip for the past few days.......come on boys realise the true potential in this and lets see some water pressure back on the main!!! | aspers
26/1/2007 14:22 | What a turnaround! we could see a hammer for this week. | buzzee
26/1/2007 14:19 | Showing some backbone, hopefully made of steel. | whatwoman
26/1/2007 11:35 | Agreed, but just wondered why it has fallen much more than other stocks. It is not as if there are huge sellers or awful news and reports around. | whatwoman
26/1/2007 11:19 | aspers... I suppose one should, 'Never say Never' with regards to the Stock Market. I am supprised that they have drifted back, but agree that they are an excellent share to hold, whether they get taken over or not. | gateside
