The distinction between demand management and rationing seems to be taking a step closer.

M100,

Though Grid are advocating keeping the SO function (but ring fencing it like they ring fenced Dino and Fest pumped storage after Privatisation), I cannot see they would be financially devastated if it was hived off and sold. Of the £2.5billion profit NG make the SO element provides just £70million of that figure. The real value is in the Asset Mgt the TO business.

neddo,

28.7p based on the minimum dividend promise and reading between the lines/ statements. Analysts convinced that NG will improve on last years total divi of 42.8p. By another 2% to 43.7p. We have had an interim of 15p leaving a prospective 28.7p in Aug. :)

Never mind, when we exit the EU we can dump these non-sensical immediate green targets and work towards a long term sustainable and predictable green source like tidal.

So when my lights go out its nothing to do with them not building enough power stations,it technology that's at fault.

I think the planning is abysmal,if you are going to shut down power stations where you can ramp up usage quickly you have to have a similar system in place.

The future has me very worried and shows the politicians as inept and living in fairy land.

While Steve is factually correct with most of what he says imv, he seems to completely ignore the cost of the measures the grid is forced to take to accommodate intermittent supply. As he says, with demand management actions requesting for a big user to cut their supply for a period or two (which has been around for yonks on a smaller scale), it's great for the company chopping its power because they get paid very generously for doing so. And its obvious who foots that, and all other, bills. So the subsidy for intermittent generation like windmills doesn't stop with the direct payments to windfarm owners, it also has costs associated with the grid taking measures to allow for the intermittency (like further demand management contracts, amongst many others). I just wonder how much of the £20bn is a direct consequence of increasing intermittent generation.

Neddo,

NG is a defensive play.

Money taken from NG to buy very cheap oversold cyclicles. Doesn't mean any weakness just the market feeling a bit more bullish. When or if FTSE continues to rise and providing fundamentals on NG reflect good earnings etc NG should rise. Don't forget rate submissions in the USA will / should bring in extra revenue and at the end of the year the Dist UK business will be sold (or partly sold). The intention is that some of the benefits of the sale will be returned to shareholders.

Whilst all this is going on don't forget the £billions being spent on infrastructure which in time will increase our Asset base. Over time the new asset value should be reflected in the share price.

Expect to see NG rise into results and continue till ex divis date early June. Though this year the mass exodus from the stock after ex-divis date may be off-set by the impending sale of the UK Gas Distn.

Mazarin,

The petition is being plugged on other BB's too. About time the manipulators of the Market had their dealings truly disclosed. Those that are against this transparency have something to hide. Well done in plugging the petition!

Trading, and the reporting of those trades has become a dark art. What you see is not always the truth.

If someone bought then someone sold!

What you really are asking for is for mm's to declare their book. Do yo you go to Tesco's and demand to know how much sugar the store has in its warehouse before determining the price you will pay?
