Thanks all, I've just seen the above posts having switched from NG. to Nexans around the time of the rights issue (not such a great decision!). At the time my NG shares were with FreeTrade who didn't enable the rights to be taken up so I sold out (and have since moved other ISA shares held with FreeTrade).

The Yanks are shorting it. They are shorting the ADRs. NG ADRs are equivalent to 5 UK NG Shares.
Scroll down the page you will see that there are over 1million ADRs being shorted, a 63.95% increase. If you follow the trend it gives you an indication about how Hedge funds are trying to manipulate sentiment for short term gain.
BTW NG ADRs fell in the US (The Ticker for NG in the US is NGG). Expect an opening fall of approx 16p / share at 8am when London Opens in the morning. Recovery depends on when the real time data on shorts are closed. The page shows the short on 29th Nov, ie, its not real time but if you regularly pull up the page it gives you the trend, the sentiment around NG in the US (for real time data you need to subscribe to Wall Street data).

Very cyclic. Happens every year just before Christmas. Hedge funds shorting to try and gain as much short term cash to justify their bonus. PIs also selling to fund Christmas.
I love Christmas like any normal person but cannot understand why people go overboard in spending what they cannot afford or spending saved assets to overindulge.
Christmas is more about being together with loved ones, family, friends and NOT about how much a present has cost.
Anyway, on the other side of Christmas Feb / mar expect a slow run up to £11/£12 and then come April, I will see what the March CPIH is which we can then calc the final divi.
As NG realise the increase in asset wealth ( which also helps Ofgem determine what NG are allowed to charge customers for regulated businesses), then share prices SHOULD slowly start rising correlating with the Asset value of the Company.
Don’t forget NG is very different from any other private company in relation to capital spend, where in NG's case the Company can recoup the costs through customer bills.
Might be wrong, as we all can be, especially with the unreliable Gov we have, but I would expect £11 or even £12 / share by results in May |

Investing at an unprecedented level
The plan includes an unprecedented level of investment of up to £35 billion over the five years to March 2031, including:
· baseline investment of over £11 billion to maintain and upgrade our existing networks, alongside construction works for the first three of our Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) projects where project assessments have been approved; and
· pipeline investment of around £24 billion, which includes around £15 billion to increase network capacity, most of which relates to the 14 further confirmed ASTI projects. Pipeline investment also includes additional potential projects that may be triggered by the UK government's evolving priorities.
Delivering a future-proofed, innovative and reliable transmission network
Altogether this ambitious plan enables NGET to:
· maintain world leading 99.9999% reliability levels;
· develop and deliver major network reinforcement and expansion projects, including the 17 ASTI projects, and the upgrade of c.3,500km of our existing overhead lines, nearly doubling the amount of power we can transfer around the country;
· deploy innovative technologies such as power control devices, and dynamic line ratings to maximise the capacity of our existing infrastructure;
· connect 35GW of new generation and storage, and 19GVA of large demand customers such as data centres and gigafactories, as well as creating a further 26GW of future connection options;
· help consumers avoid c.£12 billion of system constraint costs across the period;
· contribute to the group's wider UK investment which supports 55,000 more jobs by 2030; and
· deliver a 50% reduction in our own emissions versus a 2018/19 baseline, and biodiversity net gain equivalent to more than 8,000 acres of land, seven times the impact of RIIO-T2. |
I do advocate shorters of any type. What about the ones that uncovered Wirecard as a multibillion criminal scam in the teeth of the German regulators and establishment? If they want to risk their money then good on them. |

You obviously don’t know much about NG or are advocating the despised practices of Hedge Funds.
HS2 is a Nationalised run infrastructure, NG is a well run private Company.
The difference between the two Companies without trying to stereotype the organisations; NG are made up of highly motivated professionals. HS2 have the nationalised, Government run philosophy.
NG deliver what they promise.
For every £1 they spend on capital projects they look for at least £1.50 return in value.
I can give you a catalogue of areas where NG have bought infrastructure improved it and then sold for 300% profit. A catalogue of build projects that delivered quality and excellent engineering.
Unfortunately, the current Government are out of their depth with many project ideas, because to run a business you need to have business acumen and the current cabinet are excellent in talking out of their rear ends, hiding convictions or being able to lie on their CVs about the skills, competences and previous positions they claim to have had. |
Conspiracy nonsense on this board. Stock shorters provide a useful data counterpoint to the stock pumpers, and they also give price discovery.
I am long NG, but there are good reasons to short it. Much of the growth is predicated on UK infrastructure development, and the UK is terrible at infrastructure. HS2 has a bat tunnel for £100 million and counting. |
If you look at the US Stock Exchange, the yanks have significantly increased the 'Short' position on this stock, supporting the accusation that Shysters are at play, hurting a well run, successful British Company (Political Envy at play??)
It's about time these hedge funds are caught out just like they were during the Porsche / VW situation years ago, when the Hedge Funds were outsmarted and didn't like being caught on the wrong side of a bet, forcing them to close out shorts at massive losses, resulting in some Hedge Funds being made bankrupt.
Not many in this world would shed one tear for a Hedge Fund being made insolvent, as they are percived by many as Parasites.
Just for the record the ADR Shorts have increased by 63.95% over the past two weeks.
What will they say and do if the plan to make NG a £100Billion ($128 Biillion) business, just in assets alone, is realised in just five years? |
Had a few more myself, simply for rounding, now keep these for a decade, mop up the dividends and look forward to them slowly growing.. :o) |
I doubled up today. Have been here since a just after they went ex-rights on the share issue. It seems to be a good share to double on the dips and halve out on the rises... |
