NKS - hi and welcome to MWB. I only got into these on Friday and am very happy with progress thus far. My short term target is 70p but having regard to fundamentals (NAV etc.), I think these could go a lot higher than that. Enjoy the ride! Are you sitting tight with BDEV?

Stake building also smells of some thing big afoot, like the hotel de merger and a radical focus on liberty

MWB has been rumoured to be mulling over a sale of the chain. Can he set the record straight? "We were planning to sell Malmaison in 2007 and we didn't. No, it's not on the market. We are continuing to grow." In the past six months, MWB have opened four new Malmaison hotels in the UK and are considering taking it to other parts of the world.

The collapse in the share price of Marylebone Warwick Balfour (MWB), the quoted vehicle where he is chief executive, has also failed to deter him from seeking expansion opportunities. Ultimately MWB's assets will be sold off and the proceeds returned to shareholders.

Is it more stable now? Definately worth a lot less and would it be easy to find a buyer now? Or more to the point why sell now unless desperate?

Friday September 21 2007

UK property group Marylebone Warwick Balfour (MWB) said yesterday that it has put the £700m (€999m) sale of its Malmaison and Hotel du Vin chains on ice until financial markets become more stable.

Stake building means one thing - that someone thinks the shares are cheap.

But why would MWB want to be selling the Hotel du Vin chain at such an inappropriate time?

Stake building boosts MWB

MWB , owner of the Malmaison and Hotel du Vin hotels, rose as traders noted stake building.

Talk centred on an Asian investor that had snapped up a chunk of the company last week. Late in the session, Pyrrho Investments declared a 10.2 per cent holding. Shares in MWB closed up 6.6 per cent at 48p.

One of the more vulnerable businesses could be MWB Group Holdings (LSE: MBW), currently 113p, which owns hotel chains Malmaison and Hotel du Vin. It also owns 68% of flexible office specialist MBW Business Exchange (LSE: MBE). In uncertain times, customers need exactly the sort of services MBE offers, but on the other hand they want those services so that they can get out in a hurry if they need to. With interest cover of only 0.62, MWB looks rather risky.

I have an auto prog which tracks my investments using teletex names of companies.
I don't see this company listed to set it up.

Liberty could be valuable. But that's been the case for 20 years of failing to exploit. It's a management issue. Burberry did it. Others, like Liberty, haven't.

The real financial gearing here is in the hotels, that's c. 80% of gross claimed values. MWB is a geared holding company which owns geared hotels, plus an ungeared MBE and lightly geared Liberty.

All imho, dyor etc etrc
