FEAR everywhere |
MSI would certainly be affected by a change in the IHT rules. True, perhaps less than 5% is specifically owned by funds or individuals with the main purpose of avoiding IHT, even an overhang of this amount would affect the share price. But more importantly the main shareholders would also consider selling, as the IHT exemption may have been the reason why they moved down to AIM in the first place. |
I think the point is that the IHT AIM funds really only exist to help people avoid IHT. Without the exemption there is no reason for those people to own funds that invest in AIM. The total value of those funds is very significant. MSI isn't owned by those funds (well in any significant level as far as I can see) so wouldn't be directly affected. I guess individuals could hold shares for IHT purposes but MSI would be an odd choice for that. A general aim sell off might impact MSI.My view is that the defence business warrants holding this through thick and thin so it's not a consideration for me. |
Surely nobody is selling this just because of irrational aim fears.
Some muppets on stockopedia claiming companies may delist because then they willb e fine for iht without realising all of those funds cant even own private companies |
That's what I've been pondering Phar Lap.
The contract ref numbers are the same. It's possible the £50m contract published last October relates to legacy mounts and this £29m contract relates to newly and soon to be fitted mounts + optical sensors to the Type 26 frigates - but I'm guessing. |
The contract I mentioned previously, £29M, is listed as number 707912451
This contract number 707912451 also shows a 5 year £50M contract signed 30/10/23 and running from June 24- June 29
Is the £29M contract in addition to the £50m? |
phar lap
I am assuming this is a Royal Navy contract ? |
Nice find thanks ! |

Exactly. Could be sub 10 |
There aren't any ricky46 which is kinda my point. The lack of forecasts probably hold the price back to an extent as many investors need it spelt out for them.
But on the other hand if you're prepared to do the leg work and make a stab at likely forward earnings you're probably at an advantage to the market. |
What are the broker forecasts for this year? There’s not much news about these, the defence system is booming with the anti drone cannon |
......ah but the key is knowing the forward PE :-) |
I make PE about 12 |
A p/e of 14 is too low for this stock, they are a leader in their speciality, have tons of cash and growing order book. Other defence stocks are on much higher p/e's and deserve a rest, but not MSI. |
Defence stocks weak |
That was a very generous gift from the FD! |

Thanks Norbert for the updates. Plenty would seem to be coming together for a strong FY25. Management have given consistent confidence the defence division is demand and perhaps Paladin is the jewel in the crown. |
Encouraging progress of the RN first two Type 26's with HMS Glasgow already under weapons fitment. Each type 26 will have 2 x MSI DS30M with revenue starting to hit the P&L from this current year onwards. https://www.forcesnews.com/services/navy/glasgow-meets-cardiff-type-26-frigates-moor-alongside-each-other-first-time |
https://militaryleak.com/2024/08/14/royal-malaysian-navy-lcs-program-advances-with-successful-mast-and-radome-installation/Good to see the RMN LCS1 fit-out coming along nicely. Will be fitted with 2 x DS30M and will be completed this financial year to April 2025. This is the first of 6 (very delayed) vessels each with 2 MSI mounts. |
Pleased to finally see these 2 mounts fitted after following construction of these two vessels for a while.
Will fall in the interims to October 2024. |
Yep I missed that on a quick first read of the RNS whilst multi-tasking, that will teach me. Speculating but possibly related to the anticipated CGT increase? |
