26/7/2019 23:41 | From my own personal experience. When living in Italy, I had to drive some way to my nearest medium size supermarket and in Belgium I lived in a good size town, only had the one medium size supermarket. In my experience, the only European country that has really expanded in the number of medium size supermarkets is Spain. Where as in the UK, one can't help but fall over the number of supermarkets. | loganair
26/7/2019 23:16 | Amazon’s UK country manager, said: “We are committed to growing our grocery business so that we can continue to deliver what we know our customers will always care about – low prices, vast selection and fast delivery – and our relationship with Morrisons is an important part of that long-term growth. With the Morrisons store on Prime Now, many Prime members can do their full weekly grocery shop online through Prime Now with ultra-fast same-day delivery.” | muffinhead

26/7/2019 15:48 | Report - Supermarkets are designed to tempt shoppers to make extra purchases. Naturally, as the UK is already saturated with supermarkets and Aldi/Lidl are opening 40 new supermarkets per month, the only way for supermarkets to even stand still is to sell more to their customers at a lower price, therefore they have to tempt their customers to buy more. | loganair
25/7/2019 18:10 | Morrisons wholesale offer to Amazon prime pantry and McColls is capital light Morrisons at Amazon is also great Expansion with Amazon announced last month Value of monthly internet food retail sales in the United Kingdom (UK) from January 2015 to March 2019, based on sales per week index | muffinhead
24/7/2019 22:16 | Almost every time I hear of a new supermarket opening, it is with in 100yds, even 50yds of another supermarket, shows the UK does not really need any more supermarkets. The UK already has more supermarkets per head of population then any other country in Europe, so why do more need to be built and opened? | loganair

23/7/2019 09:45 | It seems to me just another 6 to 9 months and Aldi/Lidl will have around the same market share as Asda and with in a little over a year will over take Sainsburys. | loganair
23/7/2019 09:38 | MRW is an interesting situation. On the one hand you have aggressive expansion by Aldi/LIDL, on the other an Amazon bid possibility. Reading comments made by the CEO, he appears to suggest current free cash flow is sustainable. I would be less sure on that, however he runs the business!. | essentialinvestor
23/7/2019 09:31 | The latest Kantar figures show that Aldi/Lidl have increased their market share by 0.3% over the past month to give them a combined market share of 13.9%. | loganair
17/7/2019 11:07 | If Aldi Nord and Sud do reunify, like East and West Germany did would bring about a supermarket power house of over 12,000 stores. | loganair
17/7/2019 10:58 | Not good news for the big 4 UK supermarkets: Aldi Nord and Süd make a big reunification - Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd are making an important step in their reconciliation: the Albrecht brothers’ discount stores are harmonizing their offer. By 2020, existing home brands will be systematically merged. By 2020, standardization should be finalized. The aim of this operation is to reduce costs and generate economies of scale through joint purchasing: for some categories of products Aldi Nord will buy for both brands from ‘its’ private label supplier, while for other products it is Aldi Süd who will make the purchases at the group level. By the end of 2020 at the latest, the two discounters will also propose their weekly promotions and non-food offer in common. | loganair

02/7/2019 09:09 | Don’t be trivial gbh2, you have one poor experience, I take it then that you burst into tears, and you will never be going back, the flip side is that you can walk the extra 500yds., and compensate your loss for your health! | bookbroker
02/7/2019 09:05 | Still in a bad way if what we experience locally is anything to go by, for instance last Sunday I called in for a news paper about 11am, none were out because they had no staff to unpack the delivery! No staff on 10 items only and only three out of 24 checkouts staffed, I left and went the extra 500 yards to M&S. | gbh2
25/6/2019 09:28 | Is Morrisons really owned by Morrisey? | volsung
25/6/2019 09:26 | Supermarket market share compared to a year ago - note Kantar excludes M&S who have around 3.3% of the grocery market share so in reality the market share of the supermarkets is lower then that given by Kantar: ...........June 2018..June 2019 Tesco........27.7%.. Sainsburys...15.6%.. Asda.........15.1%.. Morrison.....10.6%.. Aldi..........7.4%.. Co-op.........6.1%.. Lidl..........5.4%.. Waitrose......5.1%.. Iceland.......2.2%.. | loganair
20/6/2019 10:31 | I'm not holding MRW atm, currently watching as if we are heading back in to recession a small holding may be worth considering. | essentialinvestor
20/6/2019 10:26 | Will Walmart really get over £7bln for Asda, that is around 70% higher than the current value of Sainsbury's??? In the wake of the blocked Asda-Sainsbury’ Judith McKenna, the British-born Chief Executive of Walmart’s international businesses, is reported to have told Asda staff, “While we are not rushing into anything, I want you to know that we are seriously considering a path to an initial public offering – a public listing – to strengthen your long-term success.” McKenna said Walmart did not have a “one size fits all” approach to its divisions around the world and Asda should focus on improving its operations, including implementing £80m of price cuts to take on rivals. | loganair |
