On what basis do you believe ATM will be one of AIM's star performers?

Just bought another 15,358 MoneyBox shares.

I honestly reckon that ATM is going to be one of AIM's star performers.

LONDON (AFX)

Shares in Moneybox staged a firm debut on the AIM market. The company, whose 47.5 mln stg fundraising was three times oversubscribed, installs ATM machines in convenience stores, clubs and military bases.

Traders pointed out that the company is 30 pct cheaper than its main quoted
competitor, Cardpoint.

Moneybox shares stood at 51 pence by 8.02 am, a premium to its 47 pence
placing price.

You have 10,933 shares in Money box - add the two values together and you get Ambients closing price of last night - so no gain in the real terms.

Goforit. Good idea! I assume they would be ok with a syndicate. I thought about an investment fund for ATMS but thought this might be a bit complicated! Also it could decrease the minimum investment to say £1000 if there were enough people interested.

cheve - one idea would be to get a group of you to so that you can have alot of atms. 100% of 1 machine or 1% of 100 machines

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think it depends on finding the right sites where there is enough footfall to guarantee 10 -20 transactions a day. Apparently in the USA investing in ATMs is big business but it hasnt taken off here yet.

The company who is offering this is not MoneyBox but Quickcash who are 50% owned by Inkas who are apparently one of the bigger players in the North American market. You are a silent investor in the sense that the filling of the machine etc is taken care of by the person who runs/owns the location where it is placed. They will do this as it helps to increase their turnover and they also get 10p on every transaction.

I suppose the big question is whether we are fundamentally different in our attitude to the machines than Americans where they are heavily used. I dont think people would worry about paying £1.50 to withdraw money if the nearest ATM is half a mile away. I am going to have a look at locations that already have the machines to see how they are getting on.

Was interested in getting some feedback on whether anyone thinks investing in ATM machines is a worthwhile pursuit. It would require a minimum investment of £5950 to purchase a machine and install it at a suitable venue. Thereafter the investor receives a cut everytime anyone withdraws money from the machine out of the convenience charge of £1.50 per withdrawal. This would be in the region of 70p per transaction. Based on 15 transactions a day it would take just over a year and a half to break even on your investment and everything made thereafter is profit.

An alternative would be to take out a loan to purchase the machine and make regular monthly payments of around £150 a month for a 5 year period with the 70p profit per transaction remaining unchanged. Assuming 15 transactions a day (450 a month) you would be looking at a profit of around £150 a month.

What do people think?

theres an atm in our local store, not many people use it because you have to pay a charge(not sure how much),but the store will do you cashback on a switchcard purchase at no charge

You also have to be sure nobody will make a takeover bid for your ATM by use of a friendly local JCB ;-)

There's an atm machine in every deli, supermarket and McDonalds in New York. You pay $1.50 - $2.00, and if the deli is closer to your home than a bank (very likely), you always use it.

Very useful and 15 transactions a day is nothing, especially in late night convenience stores/petrol stations.

Might as well just by a slug of ambient. You can see the types of returns available if you look at some of the research on ambient (moneybox).

Cheve, Location Location Location !!!!!

I think it very unlikely that the majority of these "independant" ATM machines are located or locatable in venues able to generate 15 transactions a day.
As for the rented option, Even if you were to find a reasonable location it would take time for the traffic to build up and so you might find yourself out of pocket for the initial period.

who does the managing, refills, insuring etc ? If you could get rid of these liabilities then having a few mobile machines and taking them to race courses, pop concerts etc might prove a good punt.
