MODERN WATER SIGNS EXCLUSIVE DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT FOR CHINA

Modern Water plc (AIM:MWG), the owner of leading water technologies for the production of fresh water and monitoring of water quality, has recently signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Beijing Green Science and Technology (Beijing Green) which will cover mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.

Beijing Green has been one of Modern Water's key distribution partners for almost ten years and both companies have mutually agreed that the commercial interests of both parties are now best served by a fully exclusive agreement. The agreement will maximize sales opportunities throughout the current Chinese five year plan as well as successfully position Modern Water's products during the crucial planning stages of the next Chinese five year plan.

The agreement commences with immediate effect and will see Beijing Green solely responsible for distributing all Modern Water trace/ heavy metal and toxicity monitoring products, including the widely acclaimed online and portable heavy metal monitoring system (OVA and PDV), and the industry's gold-standard in toxicity monitoring, the Microtox M500 and Deltatox.

Dr Chen, President of Beijing Green, said: "We are pleased that Modern Water has chosen Beijing Green to exclusively distribute its monitoring products. This contract demonstrates our confidence in the quality of Modern Water's monitoring equipment and our commitment to the sale of those products."

Simon Humphrey, Modern Water CEO, added: "China continues to be a key market for both our Monitoring and Membrane Processes divisions. Having worked with Beijing Green for many years we strongly believe that this agreement gives Beijing Green the potential to maximise sales of our monitoring products across China."

Norbert Colon :> Yes cash at the moment but continuing cash burn and management do not seem to be able to generate sufficient sales - of any of the technologies - to become cash flow positive.

IMO:. Too much scientist and not enough commercial - Possibly we need a mangement shakeout and the introduction of some real sales negotiators

Declaration: I do not hold but has been on watch list from a much higher price as an area where there is massive potential BUT have always been unsure as to whether thia managment can deliver.

Over to you.

I have taken an initial stake this week. Not a fan of loss making companies but i know this sector and there seems to be some potential backed up by a decent balance sheet to limit downside. Still doing more research.

Ohisay, Good story beginning to develop here on the back of massive opportunity - Henderson just bought 2m and now director buying. I bought more again on Monday and was able to average my holding down to a level I did not think would be possible. Underrated and undervalued IMHO but DYOR.

Chinese could buy the company for a song if they rated the technology .I'm beginning to think this is the best we could hope for.

Nice director purchase. Not convinced by the China story. Many western companies come to grief over there. They either don't get paid or have their technology copied.

From recent interims:

"Modern Water has continued to focus heavily on its business development activities, especially in its key markets of China and the Middle East. Earlier this year Modern Water launched a dedicated Chinese website to support marketing efforts in the region. While factors outside of our control have led to slight delays in certain projects coming through, we remain very confident about the market potential and the role of our technology and we look forward to updating the market on contract awards in due course."

Taking things on face value projects look set to go ahead at some point.

China does indeed appear to be an exciting market for MWG. Some links below which are worth a read from China Hangzhou Water website. Zheng Genjiang was on board when MWG announced framework agreement agreement late last year.

"Mr. Zheng Genjiang, Vice Chairman of China Membrane Industrial Association, Director of Desalination sub-part of China Membrane Industrial Association, Chairman of HWTT was invited to attend this workshop. In his speech, he pointed out that currently China Desalination Industrial has got credible changes with support and guide of NDRC after issuing the 12thfive-year Plan of Developing Seawater Desalination Industrial. He hopes all of us in this fields can think about it and collect different ideas, make creation and innovation, do more practice and take responsibilities. He promised the Association will also make full use of its platform and connecting function to promote advanced developing of seawater desalination industrial."

"Zheng Genjiang, Board Chairman of Hangzhou Water, added: "Our aim is to be at the forefront of water technology and this partnership with Modern Water is another strategic move that will build on this and improve our international reach. We believe that this partnership is the start of a long-standing relationship with Modern Water, who has a leading position in the field of FO technology, and Hangzhou Water with our innovative capability and industrial scale in China."

Very.
Can they get a payment per 100m(3) over life of the plant?
I think monitoring may be the drag.

re, second question. MWG were contracted to build Al Najdah plant for £500k.

Seems cheap?!?

"The contract provides for Modern Water to build a desalination plant at Al Naghdah in the Al Wusta region of Oman capable of producing 200m(3) of fresh water per day. The contract, which was won in a competitive process, is worth GBP500,000 to the Group. The high quality fresh water produced by the plant will be supplied to the local community."

Is anyone aware of any broker reports/info, specifically putting some meat on the bones of current/expected revenues from the monitoring division?

Also, did MWG actually make a profit from Gibraltar/Oman plants? Did they design & build them or were works contracted out?

A khaluf ending 2013 and expectation (risky) of final 6 month uplift for monitoring. Might account for the sales if there is a chance they will miss. The seller is probably large and might be better informed than the average small shareholder.

Any thoughts?

Look at the share price chart breakdown.
Henderson might be helping avoid a rout that would impact their holdings. Putting brakes on the decline when they mopped up some of the sales.

I very much hope I am just parnoid but the chart doesn't look healthy.

It needs a sales RNS with some beef.

Why would Henderson gi accumulate over 10% of shares if there is a problem. Assume they have done their research.

Good news today and recently but I still see no sign of the directors parting with any of their own money yet. Maybe they will once they are confident that some of these agreements look like they will bring some profits in.
------------------

I still follow this company with some interest but haven't been invested in it. Imho, my previous comment is still relevant and whilst I am not looking to invest due to my concerns about world markets being hit for six, if I was, I would be looking for some serious director buying to give me confidence that things were looking up. Certainly haven't seen any of the latter yet and could be a while off. Great business to be in longer term though.

Chinese love to copy western tech.
No ideas of their own.

Glad I got the flock out of here at a higher level.
So many AIM companies are marching to the wall these days.
