25/7/2015 12:50 | That's interesting ... an open-ended fund can afford to launch at a good time for contrarians, and by not raising much can, in theory, outperform if the market rises. Then when it's top quartile more people will be sucked in. With ITs, the aim is to raise at least £x, so it needs attractive market conditions to do that. Failure to reach the minimum is a black mark on the fund manager. | jonwig
25/7/2015 11:50 | jon...I don't know about IT's but my largest holding, Neptune UK Mid Cap U/T launched in Dec 2008 which was very good timing. I suppose most launch when they believe demand will be high from the herd, which is not usually at the end of a bear market. | henryatkin
25/7/2015 09:43 | henry - MINI currently 61% invested and with "lots of ideas" I'm told. Sorry can't link to source. On your second paragraph, it seems (strangely!) most ITs launch late in bull markets. Did any launch in spring 2010? | jonwig
25/7/2015 09:26 | RMMC had the same problem six months before the launch of MINI and I see both haven't fully invested their existing cash yet. MINI May Fact Sheet says 32.4% invested. So, they both have to buy when its hard to find quality/value/growth Personally for the time being I prefer holding the fully invested, well established (2005) unit trust Marlborough UK Micro Caps until MINI & RMMC become more established. The fundamental problem for both IT's is in having launched seven years into a bull market when rates are anticipated to start rising which increases risk imo. I hope both IT's eventually do as well as Marlborough. GLA. | henryatkin
25/7/2015 06:59 | Possible issue of further shares later this year, as they raised less than expected on initial float. | jonwig

18/6/2015 16:53 | Hi everybody I've just arrived at the party got here a bit late but hopefully the fun is only just starting and I haven't missed too much. I'm looking for a way of getting a bit more dynamism and value into my portfolio. This looks like it could be good choice for me, some good upside potential but returns smoothed with diversification and the chance to get real benefit from the fund manager. I like the fund manager and was tempted to just buy some shares in Milton itself( MGR) . Anyone got any views on that as an idea? R2 | robsy2
15/6/2015 12:20 | Big orders are coming in every day. | andysaw
08/6/2015 09:58 | Yes, Gervais does seem to get some good entry prices on his investments. This is a good trust in the making I think. Small enough to perform very well and not too small from a costs perspective. | topvest
08/6/2015 08:25 | Miton funds have taken a 5.6% stake in Gateley [GTLY] which started on AIM this morning. I had to buy once dealings started, paying 109.75p against float at 95p. | jonwig
08/6/2015 06:35 | From Citywire: Citywire AA-rated Gervais Williams has increased his stake in trading platform Share (SHRE) after the firm's founder Gavin Oldham put a £3.6 million stake on the market to fund his radio station venture. Williams has bought a £750,000 stake at the offer price of 33p per share for his Miton UK Microcap investment trust, run with AA-rated Martin Turner. The shares were trading at 35.3p on Friday. The position sits alongside an existing £604,000stake held by Williams and Turner's Miton UK Smaller Companies fund and lifts Miton Asset Management’s total holding in Share to around 2.7%. I see the NAV here has now popped over 50p. | jonwig
07/6/2015 15:09 | Fulcrum had good results this week and commenced a dividend strategy so that's a good start for them. No fact sheet appeared yet, to see what else they are holding. | topvest

17/5/2015 08:47 | Presumably from the Fulcrum and Fox Marble RNS announcements. The investment trust doesn't own 15% of Fulcrum as the Miton open ended fund owns about 10% if I remember correctly. | topvest
17/5/2015 06:55 | Thanks noiseboy. How did you find these holdings? A web search (for Miton) doesn't seem to throw them up. Miton Group interest in - Fulcrum [FCRM]: 23,262,250 shares, 15.06% Fox Marble [FOX]: 8,055,555 shares, 5% The company RNSs don't specify which trusts have what holdings. | jonwig
