Yes, Build to Rent will understand the 'Levelling-Up' between London and the rest of the country. It will be so easy.

Totally agree. Also allows them more career freedoms too. Go where they like, drop of a hat

Yes, a chinese company can easily throw a spanner in the works. To see the future you just have to look at student accommodation buildings: modern, clean, bright colours. This is what they'll want in the future too. Who really wants to live in a drab little inter-war semi in nowhere when you could live in an amazing building with communal gardens, and proper communities. Who wants to pay-out to an old fart when you can be renting off a large firm (possibly with Right to Buy thrown in too, if wanted).

Property pricing has been through a strange phase. For a while, no selling so prices could not be marked down. Then they start going up again during massive debt and 20% cut to salaries and so on. Seems all artificial really

Must be investors buying a lot, hoping yield sticks regardless

As you say, one chinese company kills that

Yes, I agree. The younger generation will be more concerned with the latest materials, air con, and sound-proofness etc. They'll consume a flat no different to how they'll consume a bag of crisps. A 1930's BtL semi just won't compete. This change could come very fast.

That sure is an issue. Of course, much of Europe is like that already. And so the younger generation here, probably not care so much about ownership now

What happens when maybe a chinese Build to Rent firm open up here and extinguish young people's desire to own, through offering cheap rent and incentives. What happens to resale values and mortgage books?

It's a cannabalistic model. It's two-faced and lacks a mission or identity. It doesn't really properly serve the community (apart from the opening hours) and brings nothing innovative. I can't see the point.

It can't be a bank 'for the people' and stick a great big Buy to Let Mortgage sign in the window - epitomising the very thing that is preventing people saving money (as they're being bummed on their rent) and preventing them buying a house of their own. All you're left with is dog biscuits and lollipops. It's a pathetic bank.

MTRO in share price terms at least, when shifted to such, basically said, we cant compete as a standard bank. No other route to go
