Here's one I prepared earlier....

For the purposes of this statement it is meaningless to draw comparisons with
the same period last year because of the changes in the composition of the
Group, but orders are up 60% if we compare something or other with something else.

Sales of Emanuel Ungaro and Ungaro Homme in Europe, including the UK, are
encouraging and in line with our (and only our) expectations, and we remain confident that the Ungaro brand will prove to be an adequate replacement for YSL. Orders for the first line, Emanuel Ungaro, will be further augmented by
the opening of three new flagship stores in Bucharest, Azerbaijan and Colombia
in Spring 2008.

On a like for like basis sales of Jean Charles de Castelbajac have increased by
five per cent and royalty income has more than doubled reflecting the new
licence agreements put in place over the last year.

Boateng sales and orders have grown a bit.

Greenmark has been successfully integrated into the Marchpole business model and
is performing ahead of our (and only our, well really I mean my) expectations.

The retail environment in North America continues to be difficult and sales by
Moda America are lower than for the same period last year. On the
positive side margins have improved as a result of Marchpole's sourcing
capabilities, but were probably better off just shutting it down anyway....

Under recent LSE rules, all main market statements must now provide "interim management statements" between interims and finals and between finals and interims. Marchpole's August one was not exactly revealing:

They have not given such an update since 2005, so not definite.

Momentos - been away, just seen your last. Hope you had a good break & wishing you (and us all) a successful 2008.

I think MPH/MM can expect a "visitation" at the next AGM ;0)

Xmas spending report from Mastercard:-

- MasterCard Advisors said retail sales for the holiday season, spanning from the Friday after Thanksgiving to Dec. 24, rose by a seasonally-adjusted 3.6% over the same period a year ago, which was just above the lower end of the expected range.
SpendingPulse, a report tracking national retail sales, said the apparel
category lagged overall spending, rising a seasonally-adjusted 1.4% overall,
with a 2.3% increase in men's apparel sales and 6% growth in footwear offset a
2.4% decline in women's apparel.
Electronic sales increased 2.7%, down from the 15% growth seen on Black
Friday, and the 5.8% gain seen at mid-season.
The strongest sales category, according to SpendingPulse, was e-commerce,
which showed a 22.4% growth rate.
Also showing strength was the luxury category. Excluding jewelry, sales in
this category rose 7.1%.

"perhaps MPH can help make it a prosperous New Year"

A touch of humour there I hope, given that Mr Morris helped to make Christmas a little less prosperous for alot of us.....!

Marben, if MM did attempt to buy out at 66p, then hopefully he would be visited by three ghosts... (and the ghost of Jacob Mar-ben-ley!)

Best wishes to all.

Seasons greeting to you too wbj & to all others

Momentos, all I was saying was that I wouldn't be in too much of a rush to accept a 66p offer after recent history. I am not suggesting that this is what will happen. But, as I said, my position is small now so my POV may well be different to that of others...

Wish I could be as flippant as you guys............. but I am more upset at the way MPH seems to be run ....or not run..... from what i can see... Several of your comments indicate you know the company well, and there is past history
with MM ------ so what is going on ..... are you all ex employees ???? !!!!

I was under the impression they were not welcome at Sandy Lane this year and had or are going to the Maldives instead.

Nothing like a good old fashioned conspiracy theory, eh Mark!

Personally I think it is an evil conspiracy by the Duke of Edinburgh (with MI5 help) to take over Marchpole and kill Morris.
