Hi momentos,

You're probably right about MM being replaceable - but what worries me on that front is that I think MPH is really all about personal contacts: with designers, with buyers, with suppliers. My concern is: does he share those contacts sufficiently with his team?

When he finally decides to go, will those designers, suppliers etc be happy to deal with whoever replaces him?

Whilst I believe he works hard & runs the business pretty well, will he finally be prepared to trust anyone sufficiently to ensure a smooth handover? If not, then the value of the business will be pretty low when he decides to sell. Perhaps he prefers to extract a large part of the value of the business through bonuses? ;0)

Compliments of the season,

Mark

And will I buy in?

30p mate, 30p!

We will get there, dont worry. If buybacks / buyouts were going to appear they would be here by now (given the impulsive personalities involved).

No news that will make a sod of difference until July 2008 (= FY results)

Bad general market conditions are one thing ! --- Poor trading by one company,or one sector is another.
Dont see too many positive vibes coming from MPH at the moment........
Am beginning to agree with pbracken 3446 --- something not looking 100% right here. Market mark downs can be 40 even 50 % ----- but these are down 75% from high of 191p.
Want to invest as price is right................but v.nervous.....

which says a big rally is more likely

even in 1932 when to dow fell 85% over 2 years the average p/e was 4-5

and wot about AHT forecast fy profit of £160m and bullish outlook, with MCAP just over £400m????

oh and now CRE & MCB are down again, CRE will be on a fwd pe of 2-3 soon!!!
if we get a correction or crash from here now, say ftse down 500-1000points, then we'll have robust companies on pe's of 1-2!!!! crazy.

Absolutely drh. I get really irritated by people who say, "Oh, the market's not discounting a recession yet. The FTSE has hardly fallen. The real falls are still to come." Many good companies have been marked down by 40-50% - and they were not expensive in P/E or PEG terms in the first place.

I get the impression that many PIs and funds are just liquidating portfolios indiscriminately - and woe betide any company with disappointing results or a profit warning: expect an immediate 50% mark-down. If this isn't a bear market for many stocks, I don't know what is.

The share price behaviour of KLR, for example is extraordinary. It's a FTSE250 stock with a market cap. of £430m but the price is gyrating by more than 5% on a more or less daily basis!

We'll just have to see whether any rationality returns to the markets in 2008.

Merry Christmas everyone in the meantime!

plenty of buys on the plus market, and the 50k at 9.15am would have being a buy at that time as the sell price had already fallen to 39p

Looking at some stocks (lots actually) that have recently report increased revenue and profit, one would think we'd been in a bear market all year with the ftse at 4500-5000 levels.....like MCB, TPT, CRE, OPD most Biotechs SLN, OXB, AZM.....

i don't include MPH cos we've just been plain lied to by our favourite Mr Green imposter.

Ahh.. I see rellestrohs's cunning plan. It's all subliminal you see (is that legal?).

A BACKWARD (ie opposite to) shortseller is a long buyer. His messages, and his subliminal-message-intentions are clearly to encourage us to buy.

There's a lady who's sure.....

After the interim results Shore Capital dropped their estimate of EPS to 1.9p (sort of like an emergency tax code) they then obviously went and talked to the company and last week moved their estimate up to an EPS of 10p(which will be erring well on the safe side).

Positive id that rellestrohs [shortseller] is Ba5shir, aka "fusebox". These psuedonyms have two easily detected commonalities (besides their style of posting): a vendetta against paulypilot (see, eg, TMN thread) and a love of EKT.

Perhaps they could include the price of small cap shares in the inflation figures to fiddle it down even further....

RPI = 4.3% CPI = 2.1%

Don't like the smell that permeates MPH. I accept that the results are inordinarely second-half weighted, so an improvement of sorts is to be expected. But there is a ring of déja vu about this company and a retest of hostorical lows must be an evens bet. I don't think its surprising that Morris only picked up 25K (peanuts for him) recently - a gesture, OK, but one which seemed to acknowledge that more pain is on the horizon. Avoid.

reckon those were all sells from our seller this morning

would be more worried but small cap stocks been slaughtered across the board.

northgate(nis)is even down DESPITE issuing a 'statement re possible offer' which newspapers estimate at £1
