Yes of course - correct. The question is the value of MRO ex Elster.

Yes ursus, but if it were to be today, then the share price would be c80p. That is my experience since I became a holder (when they walked away from Charter)

The return of capital indicated is in the region of £2 per share, is it not?

Hi epigam

you need to factor in the returns of capital I think as well into the calculation - there have been quite a few and can't quite remember which involved share consolidations etc.

My hunch is yes they will - this is a quality company that's somewhat misunderstood by the city (fortunately for me though!).

You can bet that they are constantly looking at new acquisitions - and it wouldn't surprise me if they have some lined up. Certainly prices look better now than they have for a long time.

Marvellous.... however, directors were buying at 3.05-3.20 I seem to recall... will they see a profit on those purchases?

Bodgit, completely agree, the Elster disposal is much earlier than expected and it should be approx £2 per share returned plus retaining around £0.6bn in the company (residual balance of £3.3bn received less shareholders return £2bn and debt of circa £0.7bn - all rough figures) plus the value of the brush business.

This will easily give them firepower for smaller deals.

I haven't yet found any mention of possible acquisition targets, but I'm guessing that there are plenty out there, just looking at my own engineering shares - GKN, Senior etc, all prices have come off since the beginning of the year, on what are fundamentally sound businesses.

Great news today and confirmation - if any were needed - of the Melrose ability to deliver on their business model. Well done to them and all shareholders.

Cheers SB....

Took me a few moments to scroll past 11.30am, but I got there in the end..

Interesting that they value MRO at the mid point of their two extremes. I read it to say that with a decent sale of E.W., and the appropriate figures to back up the recent bullish TS, a share price of £3.55 is eminently possible.

Cheers SB... I hope the share price will now be more bullish. It's all quiet but I bet it's feverish at Elster Water

Surely, you mean Acquisition

In a different Hungarian dialect, Elihwneam means unnecessarily sarcastic ;-)

My God, yes, Magpie. And to cap it all, my name spelt backwards, 'Elihwneam'
means 'Aquisition' in a little known Hungarian dialect.

Hey... how's that for a coincidence... Elster means Magpie in German... and my avatar is a backward magpie

I wonder what other companies in the metering world may be of interest to Toshiba/L&G... or is it a one horse race?
