Not too sure about any of this but the impression I got from the phone call is that there was no need to do anything as they would keep me informed of any action required as when and if it became necessary. I will see if anything turns up by Monday and if not I shall ring again and ask about transferring my holding to another broker who is switched on to the 'New Matra'

Doxford,it would appear that(with the both of us being with Equiniti) they not knowing much, is not going to leave us much time to switch to another broker if they dont do cdi

just been chatting with Saga/Barclays/Equinity and have been told that they are aware of all of this but have not received anything official from Matra as yet. They will inform holders when they actually have something to hand, and will advise accordingly if any action is required. When asked if the proposed shares will be tradable through them if they ever materialise the short answer is 'we don't know at this time'

Most impressed by share centre .Just received this email Incidentally they were right transfer can be done now time permitting .But I think his calculations out as forgotten to divide by 1000Dear Mr I have checked again with our Corporate Actions department to go through the documentation they have received (a digital version is available via the Matra website at and the expected timetable for the scheme. We only received the hard copy of this document yesterday, so it is possible Barclays have yet to receive this given delays with the Christmas post. As mentioned previously, the scheme is subject to approval at the EGM (not AGM as per my previous email) on 12 January with the effective date of the scheme being 18 January. The date of 1 February I gave is the latest date we would expect to receive the new CDI shares as they are due within 14 days of the effective date; they may well be received earlier than this. Looking through the document (page 11 has the timetable), the last day that the existing shares can be transferred is 13 January. So, to transfer the shares prior to the scheme (which is definitely still possible) we would need to ensure Barclays have everything they need prior to this date. That is only 11 working days (including today), which is quite tight but not impossible. If you can arrange to send the signed transfer authority to me today, I will ensure that we turn this around on the day of receipt to get the transfer moving. As Barclays do not yet appear to have any information on this, you may want to forward them the link above to the scheme documentation. I have also given you a screen print from Crest showing that the shares are still 'enabled', meaning they can be transferred. Whilst Barclays will also have access to this information, it will be limited to only a handful of individuals and given the size of their organisation, it may not be readily available. Finally, as confirmed in our conversation, I would just specify 'ALL' Matra Petroleum shares to avoid any ambiguity if the transfer is processed after the scheme. Also, my interpretation of the scheme documentation is that you will receive 5 new Matra shares for each 1 old Matra share, meaning your share holding will become 40,000,000 shares, not 40,000.

So, this is my take on what I think will happen:

CDIs are UK securities representing an underlying interest in an overseas security. They are issued on a one-for-one basis. Because CDIs are UK securities, you can receive dividends in sterling and can buy or sell CDIs easily in the UK.

Re-reading the scheme plans and working on the basis that Matra would not be trying to make this complicated, my take on this would be that anyone holding shares in electronic form in CREST with a broker who deals in CDIs would get their shares automatically transferred into CDIs. If at any point in the future an investor wanted to hold actual shares, they would need to open a nominee account in Sweden and then transfer the CDIs for shares.

I assume that anyone holding their shares in CREST with a broker that does not deal in CDIs may have to transfer them to a broker who does.

As I say - this is just my assessment on it at the moment. Hopefully Hargreaves Lansdown will confirm this.

Super, my shares were transferred to Equiniti Financial Services(from Saga Share Direct/ through Barclays Stock brokers), they have said that they will get back to me, the guy didn't know whether they dealt in CDI.Barclays DO NOT deal in cdi,as such, only through their International Share Dealing Service, once again thank you

I've just spoken to Hargreaves Lansdown and their Corporate Actions team have not yet been made aware of this proposed change. I have sent them the document that was released and asked them to respond ASAP and confirm what the conversion process is and what we, as shareholders, need to do. The team at Hargreaves Lansdown are normally excellent so I expect to get a comprehensive and factual response soon.

This is not a process I'm familiar with so I will have to be guided by them.

Could someone please explain what a CDI is and any ideas on the cut off date to transfer/convert shares into these. It seems strange that most hold electronic shares via a broker, so unless we kept up to date with Matra we would never know that we have to do something? It just does not add up, I'm a bit frustrated lol, but not surprised. Ted might have the last laugh :-), I hope not. Hey ho .......

Someone mentioned recently that it wont be possible to 'bed and ISA' the new Swedish shares but my research suggests that it is permitted to hold international shares in an ISA and so that could be wrong. I will be speaking to Hargreaves Lansdown this morning and I will check.
