I think it depends on circumstances. There is no doubt that the snow in UK did impact on people's ability to travel etc and has been commented on across the whole retail trade and construction industry as a reason for lower performance. I've heard a brickie complaining that he can't lay bricks because of the frost; I've never heard one say he can't work because of the alignment of the stars!

I must admit to getting nervous when companies start blaming the weather, a bit akin to blaming the alignment of the stars

If Mars were rated in line with GK the share price would be 160p+. Made a 20% turn in GK and have switched funds to Mars. Well worth a punt.

GNK is up another 2.5% today. So since Thursday's trading update GNK has risen +22%. MARS has risen only +2%.

Holding announcement just out. One shareholder has sold down from 6% to under 5%. This explains why these shares did not rise on the back of the GNK trading update.

I always set up my own moderated board.
If this bulletin board is attacked by trolls at any time then sensible investors can use my moderated thread.

BTW my graphs are much better.

Good question Gerd, I hadn't realised there was a second active thread. I wonder why ChineseInvestor started it. Silly to have two active ones.

Cheers,

Any reason why there are two active threads on this.

It means I have to make four or five extra mouse clicks every time. Not only is that less efficient but it can also be quite tiring.

It is tempting to guess how much profit they can make over the next 5 years,
and how much debt they could pay down.

What price will the shares be then if things go well.
A multi bagger I suspect.

but I don't think they'll get the market to give them a rating until they prove that they can pay down, not just service, the debt.

One hopes the Government have learned that lesson.

Some good discussion here this morning as well as a share price rise.

Agreed jeffian, they should demonstrate that they can start paying the debt down.

On Gov, it is my experience they never learn anything, although I. Can not see us getting back to high teen interest rates.

#2645,
True, but as a direct consequence of the Government's ill-fated economic policies when trying to fix our currency against European currencies drove interest rates to outlandish and unsustainable levels. It was a double whammy because high rates = low capital values so you were hit on both sides of the equation and it wasn't just property owners but businesses as well as even the widest profit margins couldn't cope with 17% interest rates (which is what I was paying in the run-up to Black Wednesday). One hopes the Government have learned that lesson.

GNK back around £6 soon imo. Should see MARS back to 120-130 range - provided the next TU isn't catastrophic
