1974 was "interesting" - an understatement !

Well the market would be an interesting (and volatile!) place if all investors followed a policy of 100% cash in (perceived) bad times and 100% invested in good. Just to prove that 'the market' is an amalgam of all views right across the spectrum, I (and My Old Mum before me even longer) have been pretty well 100% in equities since 1972 and, despite ups and downs (1974 was 'interesting'), it has done me no harm at all. If you think you can time the market, good luck to you. I do happen to have a slug of cash at the moment, purely because I have encashed an offshore bond for estate planning reasons, but generally I like my capital to be producing a steady and growing income stream from dividends rather than being dead money in the bank. And as for MARS being "the most risky share that I own", I consider it risk free (not in terms of the share price but the security of the asset).

There. Call me a Contrarian, why don't you?!

RC,to be honest apart from a few wildcat bets on aim that always seem to serve me well abeilt not to often and with a little bit of timing I’m all cash.I strongly feel that’s the place to be at the minute, patience is a virtue I firmly believe in but I wish you well.

trev, I respect your posts and have no problem with your negative outlook on the stock. Anyone buying a stock is always taking a risk, the question is whether the risk and reward are balanced enough. I have less than 5% of my portfolio in Marstons and certainly would not take it higher than that. I think this is priced low relative to the likely future returns, but probably this is the most risky share that I own.

Depends on your sources.

But 60, yes SIXTY pubs CLOSING EVERY MONTH according to your figures is hardly a positive sign.

That's 720 pubs per year (or more using different source figures).

Do you think that's good?

Negative views are good if they provide some facts or "reasonable opinion".

I'm afraid a lot of the posts across the whole of ADVFN don't provide any facts, evidence or anything useful. Simply designed to push the share price around, which I don't think is actually achieved given the liquidity and market cap of some of the stocks involved.

This is not de-ramping Obviously on a stock like this it’s educated debate you have your views and I mine but I would ask you to take a step back and think about the very uncertain future ahead and the impact that this will have not just in this stock but across the board there are truly ominous sighns of a large correction to come and that is being reflected in many share prices.Im often astounded about the amount of a companies so called worth tied up in intangibles add in commercial properrty and yes I no how lots of this is financed but this stock could be severely hit.

Negative views are always welcome on all shares. Non holders often contribute useful views and information.

Do any of the de-rampers really think posting on here is going to make any difference to the share price and people's behaviour?

If you look IC have tipped this before at a substantially higher price than today so not a recommendation I would follow. It seems clear to me the big boys want this a lot lower,ok summer trading looks like it could be good but the market is looking further into the future than this and that looks bleak for this sector given Brexit, trade wars the ending of cheap, cheap money and the fact that that long overdue crash is only half way through!

Capital loss is always a worry for income investors. I have bought here at under a 100p and that seems like a reasonable entry to me. I could be wrong of course.

How long will the big investors be able to sit on shares which are not performing, there must be pressure on them to force a major change.
