The main positives for MKS for me .. at last they are getting results from online sales and also not going for big price reductions. It's going to take time to turn it right round but there's now a good management in place.

Number of points on retail today which may affect Marks.

Marks fall in sales not as bad as Debenhams and as such they could benefit through Debenhams demise.

Don't get carried away with John Lewis results the company growth not as good as the impression they gave.

I had already worked out John Lewis Partnership sales would be flat!

I worked out a 6 weeks trading compared to end of December and sales were flat on that basis.

This year they provided a 7 weeks trading including up to 5th January which distorted the same comparison last year and therefore showed a sales rise.

That is a deception imo.

It will all come out in the wash year end for JLP with 3 weeks left in year end trade they are on track for less sales on the year.

Michelle Wilson, analyst at Berenberg:

..overall performance could still lead to forecast downgrades depending on the margins achieved. She added that while the food result was better than expected, it was still “very poor and a significant underperformance on the sector”.

If the news was grim there would have been a bit of a sell off, at these levels MKS is a good contrarian bet for 2019.

I have been adding over the past few days, not enough to upset the SP, 3000 in total.

11% short is still a concern.

Also added OCDO , NMC SGE and AZN small lots

I expect that most of the 11% shorters are closing before Thursday as it may be that this has had a better than expected xmas period. I would not be surprised to see this around the £3 mark on Thursday. Also always the chance of a bid or merger round the corner.

Morrisons sees stronger-than-expected Christmas sales, Greene King cheers festive numbers

Hammering up today.

Shorts doomed to failure.

Morrisons LFL sales up 3.6pc retail sales up 0.6pc over Christmas, wholesale business (which includes Amazon & Mccolls) up by 3pc

Morrisons reported stronger than expected retail sales over the festive period, supported by prices that were kept level with last year. As the first of the big four supermarkets to deliver its post-Christmas update, the Bradford-based group revealed group like-for-like sales of 3.6% in the nine weeks to 6 January. This comprised retail sales growth of 0.6%, with wholesale sales growing 3.0%.

Please do your own research as always.

When you look at the above Mks chart...how the price was kept below 300p most of the year 2018...and when it reached 310p it was quickly slammed down...
