Need to just let covid roll, herd immunity. IMF said yesterday 160m people pushed into poverty becos of covid, how much damage will that cause for generations. There are what 7.5 billion people in the world, 1.2m deaths, it barely registers to be frank. Need to just get on with it as its not worth the damage. Stay fit, lose weight, wake up call for all the fat brits and yanks.

Diku

There simply are too many retailers and too much excess space some of it needs to be converted to housing or flats or even nursing or residential care but it won't be easy and expensive.

It's almost pointless converting to offices are people can now work from home and save on travel costs in don't so.

John Lewis are going down the offices route on spare capacity on their top floors but they may find out there is a lack of people wanting to rent and could be an expensive mistake.

porsche,

Gulp !

I don't know how to answer your post but you are correct. LSD instead of fluoride seems extreme but may be needed along with injections of ketamine to blot out the worry of where the UK is going.

robot,

More job losses today:

National Trust to cut 1,300 jobs people not going the properties anymore and they are being mothballed.

HSS Hire to close 134 branches with 300 job losses.

Some of the National Trust employees may find a position in "robot global" castle and grounds, farms, residential care homes and properties around the globe.

But "robot global" only looking for reliable and trusted hard workers a good CVA is a must and wanabee badly wired dipstick investors in retail companies wont get considered.

The last time "robot global" advertised for jobs there were around 9,500 applications for just 3 positions, such was the demand to work for "robot global".

About some closure of Clarks shoes... Daily Telegraph... Applies to Marks too. Death of The High Street....

Dominic Husband8 Oct 2020 1:23AM

The overreaction to the pandemic is the problem. I need some new boots and would happily go to Clark’s, but as things stand I’m not going to walk around town like an extra from the worker’s city in Fritz Lang’s Metropolis. When the idiotic restrictions finally collapse I’ll happily return to town. Unfortunately, the Government will have put most shops out of business by then...

Think Marks have already said they will not sell chlorinated chicken.Mind you chlorine is essential in the food industry anyway. Many would be ill or dead without it its use.Double standards. Education needed.

Consumer champion Which? is calling on MPs to strengthen the ban on chlorinated chicken and hormone-boosted beef imports. On Monday (12 October) a crunch vote will take place on whether to amend the Agriculture Bill to ensure future food imports comply with UK standards. The amendments put forward by the House of Lords come as the government races to secure post-Brexit trade deals with the United States and other countries. To date the UK government has resisted calls for legislation to protect food standards, due to pre-existing law banning the import of food produced to a lower standard. But the government has yet to respond to Which?'s cross-party letter asking for assurance that the ban will not be removed through secondary legislation without a vote in parliament. In the latest Which? survey, 94% of UK consumers said it was important existing standards were maintained, while three-quarters said it was very important.Around three quarters said they would be uncomfortable eating chlorinated chicken, while eight in 10 said they would be uncomfortable eating beef and consuming milk where cows had been given growth hormones used to increase production.READ MORE: Pound falls on report UK government could quit Brexit trade talks next weekThe consumer champion also surveyed more than 6,000 members of the general public about their views on maintaining food standards. More than 75% said they were concerned that the UK had not ruled out lifting the bans on chlorinated chicken or hormone-treated beef and were worried these bans could be removed without proper scrutiny in parliament.Sue Davies, head of consumer protection and food policy at Which?, said: "Our research shows food standards are a deal breaker for consumers in trade deals - and many people are concerned by the government's failure to guarantee that the ban on products like chlorine-washed and hormone-treated beef will stay in place."Consumers have signalled that iron-clad legislation is needed to ensure two decades of progress on food standards is not sacrificed to secure a trade deal - and they now expect their MPs to make it happen."More than 200,000 people have already joined Which?'s Save Our Food Standards campaign signing a petition calling on the government to uphold food standards....
