Thanks for that article, I don't know about you but its important that good UK companies are protected from being taken over, BT is an institution and its unfortunates its share price has collapsed.

Too many of our companies have been sold over the years, Pilkington an example and in the last financial crisis the Saudis too a stake in Barclays, lots of foreign companies have large dates in the UK.

The state should take a stake when this happens if its needed to protect good companies being sold off at undervalue.

I assume you think the same Q ?

That would be the final nail in the coffin for the Tories. The UK already has the worst pension in Europe and to make senior citizens foot the bill for the pandemic would be the final straw!

A view from the Daily telegraph...Tim Browning22 Aug 2020 7:58AMI really doubt that the internet will cover much more than 30% of retail sales, which is pretty much where we are now.15% food shopping 40% other goods.I think you will gradually see parts that were enforced slip back over the next 6 months.

Your office party sound a erm what one would want to go to.

Its a bit quiet on the Meghan front the last few days I don't know what is up with the papers.

It either Meghan, coronavirus or some celebrity gossip hitting the press, yesterday it was George Michael's x.

But there is this randy blonde getting out of control, not that she is my cup of tea

Debsdowner will you be attending our office party again this year .

Masks and goggles are part of the fancy dress theme this year .

Rubber suits are especially required ,either onesies , or tight fitting trench coats .

I wonder if Marks&Spencers might have these in stores for November /December ..

Corona infections were over 1,000 again at 1,033; 2 deaths 841 people in hospital; 76 on ventilators; 97 people admitted.

True deaths figures are masked by the data alterations lately and are questionable. With infections still over 1,000 day the virus still worrying and its the younger population couldn't care less attitude part the problem.

Bounce in retail sales masks underlying problems

The rise in retail sales is probably a one off due to pent up demand, people saved money during the lockdown on entertainment and fuel as no one was driving cars.

LIBERTY begins redundancy talks with enhanced packages

I suppose some coming up to retirement go for voluntary redundancy and maybe some others if they think they can get a job elsewhere but its unlikely unless they are near a new ALDI or LIDl and taking on staff, but they will have to work harder.
