Stand and deliver: Waitrose and M&S fight for Ocado customers

When the home shopping service joins forces with the Marks & Spencer empire in September, will its loyal clients stay with it – or substitute waitrose.com instead?

.....But after a bruising few months in lockdown, during which the shift to online has accelerated rapidly, attitudes have changed. “Archie has lucked out,” says one retail analyst. “A lot has changed and this now looks like quite a good deal.”

New Zealand now has 29 cases after 100 days of being free and freight thought to be responsible

Looks to me like they still don't much about the spread of the disease and how it may be caught from parcels or goods in transit.

SKY given some insight into the UK economy we are one of the highest hits to the economy, double that of the US.

Although some recovery has taken place since lockdown restrictions we are yet to fully recover in the UK.

Surprising the £ against $ done remarkably well after a significant fall at about $1.1 in late March.

If DEBENHAMS does completely shut up shop and 14,000 culled it would be bigger than British Airways announcement with 12,000 jobs at risk. However BA has agreed to cut pay with the unions and its unlikely BA will make all 12,000 redundant.

In the next few weeks and months more companies will have to tell furlough staff they cannot keep them on.

SKY news now saying DEBENHAMS is drawing up plans for liquidation, and risks 14,000 job losses the most since the BA announcing huge job losses.e article by the SUN confusing as its only days since 2,500 job losses were announced and DEBENHAMS claim "strong trading" !

I can only think despite strong trading it isn't sufficient to make a profit in a competitive retail sector.

This will be the third or fourth time DEBENHAMS goes into some kind of administration.

As job losses increase, the public become poorer, sales will decline in the retail sector exacerbating the problem.

A large number of employees on furlough who it appears deal with other functions as set out here will lose their jobs next week:

"The department store chain, which trades from just over 120 stores across the UK, said it was looking to make staff who hold sales manager, visual merchandise manager and selling support manager positions redundant.

Debenhams told Retail Gazette that affected staff, who are still on furlough, have been informed of the decision and will exit the business by the end of this week."

This could be the nail in the coffin for DEBENHAMS its stores too large and even with rent reductions online has taken business from the shops.

It is the same for John Lewis but if they had have hung on they could have benefited.

If MARKS watch the situation closely they could utilize some of their excess store space and do one off deals for anything the public need to view in person but its a difficult task.

Anyone watching the TV programme yesterday evening about the life of Captain Sir Tom Moore got a glimpse of how great Britain could have been if we hadn’t become a country of whining, self-regarding, victim-status-claiming, bleating, blubbing bed-wetters like ic1.

Do not have to wear masks in Cardiff shops. That's the law here. Interestingly Bristol and other accents noticeable. And little stones are being left in stores, called Bristol Rocks. Lovely things. Perhaps a cry for freedom. It says in effect people do not want to wear masks. And they will travel to be free. They are voting with their feet. So. Bristol Croeso.
