MORRISON is removing plastic bags for life from its stores, One of the reasons is some people still not reusing them and throwing them away, so they are going to ditch all plastic bags and sell strong paper bags for customers.

Daley Bugle17 Aug 2020 5:04PMMasks are subduing footfall. After the initial novelty of having the non-essential shops open again, people have found out just how bloody awful it is to walk about in a face nappy. All enjoyment gone. Sweaty, nasty and not even supported by science or common sense - if people have symptoms they stay in, if people have covid and are assymtomatic - they will not be coughing and sneezing so will not be spreading. And even the quacks themselves have said that you have to be standing there for 10 minutes face to face with an infected person, to actually catch it. So, sensible people who can cast the net a bit wder than the Mail and the BBC for thier information know that these nasty, dehumanising measures are a crock...And they are saving their money for when these stupid measures have bene dropped. It's called voting with your feet... Debsdowner , renting a person ,they would need regular maintenance daily to keep them in prime condition .

I think it could catch on .

Renting everything means you can change over when you get fed up or change area of properties

I wonder what the rent a person terms could be I wonder .

Would you have any ideas on this one .

As Mrs robot says you are the chosen one , you will certainly have the answers .

715 corona cases in UK tested positive and 3 deaths, patients in hospital 930 and 73 on ventilators not changed much.

Slight decrease in positive test but who knows whether this is just the weekend figures.

The GOV altered the way they disclose deaths so the numbers could be false.

You are ever so funny LOL

I like the rent a person bit why get marries and lose half the house when you can rent a floozy to see how you get on.

As for renting a pet as well what a good idea.

We rent houses and furniture so why not rent girlfriends and pets.

Its better than taking a commitment on a prospective wife and being told a load of lies how much she loves you then as soon as she gets pregnant you turn out to be such a bad guy she wants you out the house but wants maintenance and the house.

As for pets you don't known how they will turn out why buy a snake if turns out to want to eat you ?

JOHN LEWIS rent or rent only in London at the moment but is to be rolled out globally

SELFRIDGES repair and sale will be the just the start, I think they may be jumping om a similar bandwagon.

Will it be clothes next to go to a party or good night out or even an event or holiday the floodgates now open to a new way of shopping.

SELFRIDGES to also jump on the bandwagon in repair and rental so John Lewis going to have competition on its hands

It wouldn't surprise me if FRASERS does as well then other retailers also rent, or ent to buy.

Well you can tell Mrs. robot that the High Street is going to go further in decline and she would find it cheaper going to a charity shop and continue to wear out her shiny metal suit.

It is the of consumerism past its peak we have to save the environment.

QANTAS and everyone else this is interesting on my research on John Lewis renting furniture:

A 3 drawer OAK chest will cost £30 month but don't know whether they goods has a delivery cost and return.

The cost over 12 months = a staggering £360 !!!

The cost to buy the chest just under £700 so renting for a year is about half the full purchase cost

Well with so many second hand goods in charity shops and also antique centers in many case it would be cheaper to buy in some cases at a fraction of the cost.

If JOHN LEWIS thinks this idea is a money spinner they are clearly mistaken. Me thinking the rental is a small percentage is clearly mistaken.

It may be I am missing something like a rent to buy or some kind of HP but haven't researched it in depth.

Bad idea John Lewis go back to the drawing board, your customers are middle class customers and more savvy than you think.

JOHN LEWIS has started one of its new initiatives today by renting out furniture which is ideal to people moving from job to job or in short term lets

It would be interesting to know how much this is going to cost I suspect the annual rental cost must be in the range of 25% to 33% to make it profitable and the furniture is thoroughly cleaned before its rented to other people.

MARKS could have done something like this and I would think if it takes off other retailers can do the same.

More job cuts today:

Jet 2 makes 102 pilots redundant

Cameron Mackintosh makes 200 redundant

However DEBENHAMS 14,000 employees are at risk, hopefully someone will step in to by what they can of the chain, but there is no guarantee this will happen. If DEBENHAMS were to fold some of the other retailers like John Lewis, FRASERS and MARKS would benefit.

AMAZON is hiring 1,000 workers for its new distribution center which is the size of 20 football pitches; it is the one to watch and could disrupt the whole retail sector

AMAZON is a massive beast and TESCO has its work cut out to stem its progress.

The retail landscape changing rapidly and all supermarket and retail profits will be under pressure for some time to come.

As for MARKS well its a trading share in the short terms imo the share price was unable to climb above £1,20 and I have said all along at £1 there is 20% either way.

A bad trading update or bleak news could push the share price down below £1 again.

We sing from the same hymn sheet !

On other news SELCT fashion retailer criticized over its third CVA which is being dome to get more rent cuts and get out of its debts.

If you went back 20 years or more when a company hit the wall that would be it, either broken up, sold or closed down like WOOLWORTH was.

But now companies get out of their liabilities by pre-packs and CVA to reduce their rents and bank who are owed money can take a company over in a short term like Debenhams creditors have done.

All this is questionable it seems to me like the directors are trying to protect their own interests before shareholders in some cases.

DEBENHAMS failure to sell its business to Mike Ashley is a typical example, he would have closed stores but he appears to be quite canny how he runs a business. He is now snapping up failed businesses.

I actually think he has a good chance getting hold of DEBENHAMS but don't know whether it will be good for the company.

Hi QANTAS

Well it is and it isn't.

There will be more online I have to agree but some people will still want to go into a shop.

The "old corner shop" has bucked the trend in lockdown when someone runs short of food its the easiest way to get stuff.

But with other stuff like clothes online lacks the feely touch, you cannot feel the quality and weight of the garments online.

The retailers will try and get round this by better technology but there is much to do an example would be showing the thread count on cotton and wool with a small patch of the material so the customer can zoom in.

This is however difficult with some fabric and and will take time to gather consumer confidence.

But in the end shops will not completely disappear imo there will just be far less if them than there are now.

One has to bear in mind this is a ever evolving situation and it may be that some time in the distant future shops increase again on the High Street but in the short term its more and more online.

One other thing to take note of is the "last man standing" so to speak should do well and MARKS has yet to come out and say what shops will close and how many jobs will be lost.
