I have just seen the Next advert in the paper, absolutely all sale items half price, starts boxing day.

The trend seems to be forming now. Why pay the full price when you can get it cheaper in a day or so. Debenhams are one of the worse cases of this, they have so many special discount days.

You are most definitely wrong there, M&S are worlds apart from Primark. The quality of Marks is much better, style and fabrics.

Yesterday, very few stores were not discounting, Burton/Dorothy Perkins 25 per cent off everything. Even John Lewis had discounted sale rails of current fashion. The only one sticking to their policy is Next, their sale will be on Boxing Day where they normally slash things by half.

I also think you are forgetting on-line sales. They will be up a good amount this year. It has been on the news, the amount of deliveries being sent to people's workplaces. And buy on-line and collect from store, Marks and Spencer are using this, you can collect goods from any store even your local food store.

Better to sell at 30 per cent than at 50 per cent next week. The more desirable items have already been sold at full price. I have said before there is so much merchandise in all the shops, it will be impossible to sell everything at the full price.
Shopping habits have changed over the years and are still changing. Year's ago, we bought a winter coat before Christmas, because the last few, the odd sizes and unwanted styles would go in the sale, even before Christmas where the shelves had emptied of winter goods they would be being stocked with spring clothes. Today, some people have a coat for everyday of the week and then buy another in the sale to add to their collection.
