My first buy in here for a while - at 40p cheaper than I last sold! Great yield to be going on with while I wait for the recovery.

Masses of evidence of share buybacks wasting shareholders funds.
But the institutions , who manage the shares , vote for them because it gives them liquidity, so they can play their games.

To illustrate the point on the PHNX board there was talk of selling investments just because they had reached a certain % of holdings.

So disregarding the performance being good - sell.
That is what the instis have to deal with - so in all markets good or bad they want the ability to offload to a willing buyer.
It matters not to them if it makes sense , for their investors , the company or even themselves they just want to do it.

Others more knowledgeable than I am in such matters have tried to explain many times, including to me on this board why buybacks are a Good Thing but I am not convinced on all points. I see somebody has voted the above post down (and possibly will do the same to this one) who no doubt belongs in the Good Thing camp.

Still my worst performing stock by far, this years dividend and my capital gain wiped out, looking like another failed share buy back exercise!

Yeah thanks CWA1

The highlighted paragraph says it all really but the share price in recent days doesn't support it.

Let's hope support is found before we touch 180 and we push back up to 200.

M&G plc ("M&G") has today released an update on its approach to IFRS 17; a global insurance accounting standard due to be implemented on 1 January 2023. The material is available on M&G's website at the following link (Results, reports and presentations - M&G plc (mandgplc.com)) and a summary of key points is set out below.

The implementation of IFRS 17 will not change M&G's strategy, solvency position, capital management framework, or dividend policy. M&G remains committed to achieving its core financial target of generating £2.5 billion Operating Capital over the 2022-2024 three-year period.

On transitioning to IFRS 17, M&G expects its IFRS Shareholder Equity to increase due to the notional attribution to shareholders of c. 10% of the With-Profits fund IFRS surplus. This positive impact on Shareholder Equity is expected to more than offset the negative one driven by the creation of the Contractual Service Margin (CSM) in the annuity business.

The increase in IFRS Shareholder Equity is expected to proportionately reduce the IFRS leverage ratio, while the Solvency II leverage ratio will not be affected by the change.

IFRS 17 will change the profit signature of the With-Profits business (including PruFund), as earnings will no longer be back-end loaded, but spread through the life of the product.

IFRS 17 will also remove the volatility related to assumption changes (e.g. longevity) from the Annuities Adjusted Operating Profit (AOP) result. These assumption changes will be absorbed by the CSM and gradually fed through to AOP over time.

M&G will provide a further update on IFRS 17 to the market in June 2023, ahead of publishing its first set of IFRS 17 financial statements at its 2023 Half Year Results.

Yeah it's doing ok in what has been a tough year for the markets in general.
Would like to see it start with a 2 again though which I don't consider being too optimistic.

Actually this has suffered the worst percentage drop, when compared to others in my holding, moreover it's proving to be the slowest to recover, however I will sit back and await the approach to the next Ex Dividend date :)

You must have purchased at too high a price gbh2. Invest for the long term. Sit back, enjoy the dividend and watch the recovery.

It has been a wide ranging rise based on hopes that US interest rate rises will be lower than previously thought…..might slow the repatriation of funds to the US or even reverse it which will be Good for emerging markets….er like UK.
