A day in the Life of an ADVFN POSTER

IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

if you can trust yourself when all doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;

if you can wait and not be tired by waiting and watching.
And don`t look too good,nor talk too wise:

if you can dream-and not make dreams your master;

if you can think- and not make thoughts your totally about AIM shares,

if you can meet with Rampers and Derampers
And treat those two imposters just the same;

if you can bear the truth you`ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch and wait only to see your shares haven fallen,
And average down,by knowing that experience rules:

if you can make one heap of your all your realised capital gains And risk it on a share like SHELL or BP, And lose,and start at your beginnings And never breathe a word on any BB about your loss;

if you can hang on in there ,despite what appears tobe a bear market with only the will that says just Hold.

if you can talk with follow posters and peers and keep your vitue,
Or walk with likes of HEDGERS, but do not lose A OPTIMISTIC FEEL ,

Be prepared to filter or ban those contributing zilch

if neither rampers and derampers cannot touch you.

if all can count on you,but none too much;

if you can fill your day with one good debate and some trading, Yours is the World of Shares with everything in it,

And-which is more, You`ll be an excellent ADVFN Thread Master and Poster,my son.

Thanks for the history it is a nice story, you might make a film of it?

I agree that advfn has deteriorated, the cause you suggest is imho irrelevant.
I believe the main reason for the deterioration is both technical and also the use of advfn. By "the use of" I am referring to what its function is.
When set up I believe it was meant to be an information site for investors with a part set aside for discussion.
However increasingly the discussion became ramping and deramping and certain people found they could make themselves rich by this. Stocks that can be influenced by ramping and deramping tend to be small and volatile and where there is a high degree of uncertainty.

Soon it was realized that more money could be made if good investment information was no longer available or obscure on the site. You will find little bb board activity on ftse 100 and even 250 stocks however tiddly miners, oilers, biotechs and techs generally attract posters like fleas.
Charting and ability to link and import stuff from outside advfn has reduced over the years.

I do not think that Brexit or politics is the reason for the deterioration in advfn however maybe the ramper deramper type of personality correlates with Brexiteers?

advfn concentrates on short term gamboling rather than long term investment imho, however the whole investment market has changed over the years with widespread use of cfds, spread betting and the like now common.

i will keep this short

many years ago, a group of british, french and swiss set up a share club in a irish
pub near the louvre,paris.

this club has continued despite the founders returning in main to their respective
countries


some joined the uk site , others the french site

since brexit the workings of advfn have deteriorated due to the advfn political views regarding exit


certain aspects have fallen apart
