I can't see baryte being worth shipping when prices of £40 being mentioned. I would think we are too far from the coast to make it worth while; Now the old tailing dams when be certainly a good bet for reprocessing for lead and zinc.

Not forgetting BaSo4, though Firebird may have.

Tym finished their drilling over a month ago but not expecting any results until the end of the first quarter. These things seem to take a long time.
They said "During the period under review, fluorspar prices have been rising in response to increasing demand for fluoro-chemicals in refrigeration and auto air conditioning in the developing world and continuing tightness of supply from China. Prices are currently quoted at $365 (delivered Rotterdam) with pricing pressure reportedly on the upside."

A few months earlier we had this from the Africa Investor
"Fluorspar prices have recovered from a low of $170 per tonne in late 2009 to $270 per tonne, with players forecasting full recovery to the $420 per tonne level that prevailed before the global recession hit the sector in 2008."

Not sure "delivered Rotterdam" is the same thing as quited in AI.
I guess no one's rushing if prices are moving in the right direction and there's enough cash to keep going.

Zinc and lead are not too bad, with lead ahead of zinc. So maybe one day a deal may come.

I did get in contact with Dunbar by phone, he rang me when I asked the company if we had looked at caverndish mill and workings in derbyshire,so it is possible, I have emailed several times to see when we can hear news on the drilling with no luck.I also rang yesterday, only the switch board there, so no news this year I feel, I was told to give the financial controller a email but it doesn't want to go through. I see all this as nether good or bad, just a pain!
From Firebirds view could be-- why tell us (hopefully) good news only for the share price to shoot up then would cost more percentage wise (to them) when they put capital in.
Feel free to email Dunbar everyone!

Hi all, i've been building a small position here as I'm aware news is due on the drilling campaign that re-commenced earlier this year. Has anyone had any luck in contacting the company, it seems very difficult to get a response from them.

I have heard alittle sniff that someone is kicking the tyres of the fluorite producer & processor in derbyshire; Lets hope it comes off for the sake of all the local people that work there; I wonder if Firebird is the one with the boots doing the kicking, I certainly hope so.......

I think we might see things warm up alittle in the new year, I guess it depends if you believe in the whole fluorspar story or not.

Now we are 6 months on from start of drilling .
They are supposed to be trying to prove they have top class resources and are keen to interest partners .
I thought it paid to advertise ???
Logic would say they cant have much to shout about, if after 6 months, they have said nothing ???.
How do you attract a partner if you dont announce a resource ??
Some have suggested that they want to get all the results out together but surely these are supposed to be stand alone resources of some magnitude .
I have held for more than 2 years and hope the next 6 months brings rewards .

Apologies should have added the previous paragraph as well.

'The 2010 target reduced fluorite ore production to under 10 million metric tons and reduced final processed fluorite products to under 4.75 million metric tons. This plan resulted in a sharp increase in prices, increasing pricing for the primary fluorite product by over 100%.

CNMIAFC communicated that the Chinese government's preliminary 2011 production plans are approximately 9.5 million metric tons of fluorite ore production, with final processed fluorite products at approximately 4.5 million metric tons. The final limitation production plan targets for 2011 will be issued by the Chinese government at the end of 2010.'

"China Shen Zhou Mining & Resources Inc. (AMEX:SHZ) also zoomed 16.40% to $4.40 on an unusual volume of 3.03 million shares. The company today announced that the Company has received the preliminary 2011 production limitation policy for the fluorite industry from the China Non-metallic Minerals Industry Association Fluorite Committee (CNMIAFC)."

They don't say what the policy is but one assumes it will restrict the production of fluorspar a lot more. It doesn't have to be much in percentage terms to have a big effect.

I guess if one was feeling bold, now would be the time to take a large position in this. There seems to be fairly solid support at around 1.5 and news could arrive within the next month or two. We had an update around the end of June so we could have a six month update around the end of Dec.

Zibra is a known fluorspar region so the results have a reasonable chance of being positive. Also the fundamentals of the market restrictions due to Chinese policy seem to be well established an my feeling is that the Chinese will let the WTO dispute run on and it is unlikely to affect their internal policies in a meaningful way.

Happy to take a beating on the logic of this argument.....

Good find GD.

Interesting article 'from the horses mouth'. If I were a European Fluorite consumer I would be concerned by this. Suggests a revaluation of fluorite across the board, a realisation that actually this is useful stuff and maybe we haven't got as much as are going to need.

Presumably 'improved pricing' = price rise.
