If I were a large holder of the stock and I had to get out this would be the perfect time.

There was a huge dividend payout, big enough that even the smallest investors could reinvest those dividends without commission being a factor.

I would have just received a high percentage of my investment as a dividend without influencing the price.

There are any number of forced reasons why I would need to get out now; portfolio re-adjustment, can't hold stock in a company with a market cap less than x, unable to hold for two years, there's a better opportunity, other peoples money, taxes etc, etc.

Or alternatively I could be getting out for investment reasons, maybe the company is hugely 'misguided' in their valuations, retail parks are dying due to the internet or the property market is overvalued and about to implode. These are possibilities but I think they're far less likely than simply a seller needing to offload and doing it in the least expensive way.

This all makes me largely indifferent to the price within reason, sure it would be nice if it were trading higher already, but it dosent really matter.

The reason why it's a more favourable investment is the same as why it's coming off now, illiquidity. The big boys can't get out if they're wrong and will take a hit if they're forced to get out for external reasons; these issues are compounded the bigger the boys and the smaller the stock.

If I had 100 opportunities like lxb over the space of 20 years then I would have one of the best investment records in history. This isn't a tech stock pre 2000 ten bagger but it's consistent and a trade with an edge.

Look at the fundamentals; trading below NAV. NAV isn't even properly calculated given a spike in asset values in recent years without a formal evaluation in some time. They're returning value within 2 years which means discrepancies between NAV and current stock prices are irrelevant if your holding period is that long. Which could be an issue in other small cap stocks but not in this context.

The stock is illiquid and small, no one cares about it in comparison to a ftse 100 company. That's also an edge.

It may take 2 years to go up, but the company is worth significantly more the current price.

BT - I seem to recall I took it as a dividend - no difference in a SIPP.

Yes, emails back...
