SMMT have announced the total for the month of June of new cars registered in the UK as 177,266. 25.8% up on June last year total of 140,958.
6 months YTD 949,720, vs 801,679 last year.

The price seems very close to the bid price for a sale still 3 months away, i.e. 119.6p to buy versus a bid of 120p. Hopefully the market is starting a think a counterbid could be possible.

the "market" doesnt think a higher bid is likely as the price is just below the offer - if it did the price would be above 120p

I sold because on the most likely scenario - that the bid completes as agreed - I'd rather have 99% of my money now than 100% later.
Sure a counterbid isn't impossible, but is it likely? Equally, whilst not likely, it's not impossible that the bid falls through. There will be professionals swarming over the odds here and I'm not about to back my uninformed guesses over their opinions.

The shares were 12p in March 2020 just before suspension, so £1.20 with the freehold property and 60mill cash, might seem a bargain but things could get worse again with the interest rate rises and other factors mentioned by the board.

Lookers were as high as 180p in 2015.
I'm not sure I'd be happy with a 120p offer!!

The narrative in todays announcement justifying the bid acceptance seems to indicate the Directors are happy to exit the sector:-

"significant ongoing structural transformation towards electric vehicles, as well as other factors such as inflation, macro-economic uncertainty, development of overseas supply chains, and structural changes to the distribution model, which create uncertainty for the medium-term market outlook".

Also, the Directors have little skin in the game & the major institutional shareholders will be delighted to turn a profit.

Whose selling and whose going to hold.....?Another good company sold out to cheaply. Problem is the Uk car industry is facing difficulties with supplies and labour costs. But another bidder would be welcome..... made an 87% profit in less than two years on these. Been a good investment.

Interesting the share price is almost at the offer price. The deal won't conclude until late Q3 or early Q4 so there has to be a view there may be another potential offer or you would sell out now.

Looks like it’s done and dusted with Cinch backing. They are probably happy to sell to a newly established competitor and effectively dictated the bidder probably thought they could not get it past CMA. Yet another example of the poor old UK corporate sector selling out cheaply to foreign competition. Never understood the poor valuations of the UK listed dealer groups

Finally a takeover bid but £1.20 sounds too low. This shows how cheap lookers is if a tiny little outfit from Canada with a few sites can attempt to buy them out

This morning SMMT have announced the total for the number of new cars registered in the UK for May.
Total 145,204.
May 2022 was 124,394, so a 16.7% increase.

Lookers & other retailers catching up with their massive order backlog which was hanging over from the chip shortage is no doubt a big contributory factor to Mays numbers & the earlier months this year.
