Dealy, I know the management are fighting hard to stay alive, but the rather glib statement you quote is not helping them. Two factors should be added in, a substantial reduction in unsold minerals and the virtual cessation of capital development. On my calculations they need the present platinum price to rise 10% in rands to be viable.
It is really an option you are buying now, not an investment. If the metal price jumps you will make a killing, if not you will be looking at wallpaper.

I like your thinking, like you I think if they do manage to survive during this time of low platinum prices then the company can only benefit when it does start to rise.

This interesting statement from the transcript of the recent results I think is very useful:

"Our business plan is still on track. And as we announced post our rights issue in December 2015, we had a net cash position of $69 million. And if you look at the graph at the bottom there, it shows you that we are still essentially on the same lines with our net cash position at $75 million, 6 quarters after our rights issue in 2015, making us essentially cash neutral and indeed continuing to make our own luck and working on reducing costs, reducing labor and optimizing our Generation 2 shafts where we get most of our profitable ounces."

So the business hasn't burned any cash in the last 16 months despite very difficult conditions and a lot of optimisation work. Yet analysts are saying things like "investors won't back another cash call". Yet such a cash call is not even remotely on the horizon. If platinum prices rise the company can generate 300m per year in profit

£185m enterprise value for Lonmin now (£244m market cap less £60m net cash). With the pound weak that is just $230m.

Can anybody here (negative analysts included) seriously tell me that Lonmin with nearly $1 billion of annual sales is not worth a multiple of this paltry sum?

Think about all the money that is being raised for new infrastructure investment funds and similar long term economic growth funds. Surely some of that would find a home in buying Lonmin.
